thank you so much Katana you have cleared alot of doubts and concerns I had, I think my mind is pretty much made up unless Omega release a new model in the upcoming months. I also appreciate the subtlety of the silver dial, whilst the blue is also quite lovely and popular but this silver/white dial I find more intriguing!

You’re very welcome, Dedlock. Good luck on your selection. I agree, the blue dial is stunning, and I would be perfectly happy and excited with that too, but my tastes veer more towards the silver dial version.

Although I love my blue GM more than many other watches, I have to admit that the white one is the much more versatile watch and you can play a lot more with all kinds of straps. But I still wouldn't give away mine.

That’s a beauty, I have always wanted a Globemaster.

Dedlock, I had previously mentioned that I believe the opaline silver dial to look silver when in natural light. I still believe this to be true, but there do seem to be situations when the dial looks more like a frosty white with a hint of silver mat shimmer (when looking closely). It’s almost like you can sense the silver when staring at it, but another person glancing from a short distance may mistaken it as white, if that makes sense. I want to qualify my original statement by saying it really depends on the type of natural light, whether it’s natural light shining through windows while being indoors, direct sunshine, overcast sky’s, or being in the shade. The dial seems to change depending on all these factors. I took some photos outside with sunlight muted through overcast sky’s, and you can see from the photos that the dial comes across more white. It’s really a very very subtle light silver, but it doesn’t come across as accurate through the photos. It’s really when you compare the white in the background of the date window with the tone of the dial that it’s a bit clearer, but it’s still quite subtle. Some of my previous photos are of what the watch looks like indoors with natural light steaming inside, in a plane, a car and in the house. You can see that the combination of natural light and the partial shade of being inside plays up both the highlights of the silver but also the more grey tones of the the silver, so the sliver comes across a lot more defined. The photos below are of natural light in semi overcast sky’s without any shade, but if pressed to define it, on close inspection I would still not say it looks like a “white dial watch”... But then you change the angle of the watch when you turn you arm and the same light hits the dial a different way and it looks different again, so it’s really hard to capture any definitive representation of the dial color as the variables are many and constantly change.
Whatever warm pinkish tint you see on the watch is reflected light off the shirt I’m wearing. I just wanted to show you these as to emphasize that the shade of silver will shift from extremely light (easily perceived as white) when in direct brighter natural light, to clearer shades of sliver when there seems to be more shade around. Hope that helps.

Thank you katana, since my AD dont have the watch for me to try on I am going to have to rely on every resource available to make sure I know what to expect. To me the dial in natural light looks almost pearl white with a silverish sheen/ shimmer , its far from being a boring white colour in fact I think its actually one of the best representation of this combination. As mentioned by Munichblue the dial also makes the watch more versatile strap and bracelet wise.

Happy to help. Your characterization of the dial is well put. I also agree that it’s far from a boring white, and is very versatile.

Just determined from my AD that the Omega price hikes will be affecting the Globemaster a little bit higher than the rest of the lineup, with an estimated increase of 8%! since this is the only watch of the current Omega lineup that I really want badly, I guess it doesnt make sense to wait any longer.

The GM looks awesome on leather strap. I think the steel bracelet just overwhelms the watch...

I did not expect that. Good luck with the purchase.

Actually I'd like to thank you Katana, and the others who helped make up my mind with the details and pics you guys shared, I was hoping to wait till next year but there was just too much uncertainty on the line's future and those 10% prices hikes were looming ( inclusive of Vat and Ads markup). I ended up negotiating a good deal on a piece that mysteriously appeared at my ad, I couldn't believe my eyes it was either divine intervention or they careless forgot it existed in storage!

The watch doesn’t disappoint, in fact I’m wondering why I hesitated so much and took so long to get it, the watch is exquisitely beautiful with such a refined elegance, why the hell isn't it up there with Omega's crown jewels and I'm still stumped as to how the other constellation line keeps getting updates every year and this one hasn't been touched since 2015/2016!

The white dial dazzles with the light and keeps shifting from polar white, to offwhite, to a silver/grey and at times even Champaign! I was also surprised that the dials texture seems to vary from a silvery sheen, to an ice rink, to a wafer thin texture, the pie pan is more subtle which I rather prefer less is always more in my book. the subtlety brings a depth to it.

The silver is woven into the dial through the indices and the hands, the tungsten bezel crowns/frames the dial beautifully bringing its own uniqueness and spark, the finishing on the coined edge bezel is marvelous.

Negatives, none so far maybe if I'd nitpick I would have preferred a screw down crown. the bracelet has been much discussed here, and yes its awkward but is something I got accustomed too rather quickly it also quite different from other omega bracelets which I've experienced.

i've tried to capture the depth of the dial. in the pics below,

Congratulations Dedlock, and welcome to the GM club! Glad you got a good deal. I was more than happy to chime in. I selected the GM very quickly and didn't do much background on it, so in retrospect I wish I had been more informed, but it all turned out fine as I still love it.

Nice review of all the aesthetics you're noticing, all very well put. I continue to be mesmerized by the dial. I'm with you on the subtlety of the pie pan. Some no doubt would want it to jump out at you from across the table, but I much prefer it the way it is, less is more for sure.

It is certainly a shame that Omega continue to develop the other Constellations, but not the GM. I feel Omega initially dropped the ball when they introduced the GM. It seems that it's an appealing watch to many people, but Omega missed the opportunity to define it better, and now has reverted back to lines and variations that have been their bread and butter. Omega should really find a way to reposition the GM as it really deserves to be part of their continued legacy.

I agree with the nitpicking about the lack of a screw down crown, however I never intended to swim with it, so it's not really an issue for me personally. Good to hear you've become accustomed to the bracelet... that really seems to be the hit or miss for some people in terms of the sizing. I really like the way it looks as it perfectly integrates with the case. Nothing feels like an afterthought.

Your GM is stunning!

I think with the bracelet it holds the wrist quite firmly because as you mentioned its designed to be seamlessly integrated, since I've got thinner wrists the tight fit is not something that's much of an issue.

However, it might prove to be problematic with those who have thicker risks.

Agreed about Omega dropping the ball on this line, they created and designed a great watch but had no idea how to position and market it, they also seem just as confused with the other constellation line which has been updated twice this year alone!

I still have hope they'll surprise us with a Gmt GM soon.

I have thinner wrists too, so I know where you’re coming from.

I agree, a GMT would be a nice way to continue what they started. Here’s to hoping.

I was on the fence over the Globemaster for a while, I now cannot and do not want to remove this watch from my wrist.

I can only agree with you, it is incomprehensible why Omega no longer invests in the model maintenance and in the marketing of GM.

Speedmaster and Seamaster are certainly the more famous watches, but the GM is a classic beauty and a completely unique design. Omega could make a lot more of it. Having said that, I’m enjoying mine very much so I don’t really care.

Agreed. Just doesn’t make sense to put so much effort in the design and production of the GM, only to fall short on the marketing. I feel that Omega put everything into marketing the legacy of the Constellation line when they introduced the GM, but didn’t really define or address a number of things like positioning the watch for potential wearers, it’s place inside the current Omega lineup etc. You have the popular sport watches, and then the DeVilles, and then the GM kind of floats in between somewhere. Another thing that I felt Omega should have gotten in front of was the unveiling of the fluted bezel (or coin edged bezel to be more precise). Omega left people’s perception to run wild with comparisons to the datejust, when they should have clearly tied it to their previous models that had coin edged bezels. They had pilot watches dating back to the 30s that had similar sized fluting as the GM, and I feel had Omega made those connections, it would have more clearly cemented the model as an original design based on Omega DNA. It may seem superficial that a watch be judged in such a way, but I do believe that many are just not aware of Omegas history beyond the popular models, and do approach things in a superficial way.

having said all that, I’m like you, I don’t really care at the end of the day because it doesn’t affect my enjoyment of my GM.

Thanks! It's very tempting. I have the chance to pick up a BNIB at a decent discount but it would mean moving out a few others. Hoping to try it on tomorrow am. Love the white also but it's the only the blue one on offer.
