It is analogous to a car that car enthusiast all claim to love but they don't actually buy it. Then you hear the uproar when the manufacturer kills it.

To be honest, I don't like it.

I appreciate that Omega brought back the lauded 'pie-pan' dial, but this new version's dial is fairly flat, so it lacks the depth that made the vintage pieces so fascinating. The fact that the minute track is full-dial instead of along the central decagon means that at some angles the dial looks totally flat. I want to like the Globemaster's dial, but it just doesn't excite me in the same way that vintage Constellations do. Because of that, I can't really justify purchasing one and keeping it forever. Even if I bought one to support the model line, I can't guarantee I wouldn't sell it off due to not bonding with it.

Make no mistake, the Globemaster on its own is a wonderful watch. The build quality is fantastic, and it is indeed fairly underrated. The tungsten carbide bezel is quite ingenious. The combination of beefed-up C-case dial and pie-pan style just isn't for me, I guess. While the C-case is nice, I think Omega missed an opportunity to show off their ability to create a geometrically fascinating reinterpretation of the classic pie-pan. They also shot themselves in the foot by using a design motif that is now so closely associated with another brand. While the original C-cases did sport fluted bezels, 99% of people in the watch market today won't know this, and Omega didn't do much if anything to inform people of the history.

Side note: Omega ought to deploy that material on watches like the Aqua Terra, so their bezels get scratched less frequently. Models with flat/beveled bezels would really benefit from the material upgrade because of how easy their geometry lets them be scratched.

I agree with you, except with your dislike, however I can see your critical points from a historical point of view.

I wouldn't underestimate the GM's ability to grow on somebody that misses a more consequent historical approach. The watch is - as it is - perfect in its own way.

Concerning your side note, that Omega should use the Tungsten material for the AT's bezels: The ATs would easily increase in price by maybe 1000 bugs at least. Ok, maybe the flat shape would be easier to produce than the coined one of the GM... 500 bugs?

I’m looking to add the GM to complement my Speedy 3861 Sapphire Sandwich. The Speedy came from the OB, but for this Globemaster I’m concerned that paying full retail at the OB may be a huge mistake if this model is being discounted heavily. Who should I look to for the purchase? I really don’t want to go the JShop route, and want the peace of mind that comes with an Omega 5 year warranty.

Today I was looking for watch that I will use in situations where Globemaster will not be wise to wear (sports, gardening etc). I am interested in Garmin Vivomove Style as it is combination of smartwatcha and analog watch, but why I post this here is becase I put Vivomove which is 42mm beside my Globemaster and took photo (my intention was not to compare but I didnt want to take off Globemaster as it was pretty crowded).

Now if you take a look to my picture you will see that 42mm Vivomove is not that much visualy bigger than 39mm Globemaster. And I know that lot of people asks about size of Globemaster. Also this shows that Lug to Lug is also important in size percepcion. I would like to se picture like this but with Annualcalendar vs Globemaster.

Also Garmin on this picture is lot thicker than GM and its bracelet is 22mm.

My Globemaster arrives from Omega in a few days, after many months of admiring it! Tough decision between the white or blue dial, but went for the white as I thought the blue was perhaps more dressy looking.

Never paid attention that the annual calendar was larger, otherwise I was fantasizing about owning one, one day

Just googled whether such a comparison exists, it doesn't seem to be, but the wrist shot photos for the annual calendar was enough

After viewing 1000's of vintage Omega's every day, it looked like a comically enlarged watch, you know how some people edit photos, enlarge someone's shoes 20% and it looks ridiculous, looked like one of those, definitely not a watch for petite wrists - but obviously it's all because of my perception, I used to wear a 55mm G-Shock in 3rd grade ... now anything above 35mm is a push

I ended up selling my blue dialed GM on the bracelet. There were a few reasons. First, let me begin by saying that the dial on this watch, especially in blue, is just stunning. There is really nothing like it and it’s just mesmerizing to view. That being said, I grew to hate the bracelet. It’s very heavy, the butterfly clasp drove me insane, and I could never get a good fit. I also didn’t care for the METAS certified movement. Mine was perpetually +5 SPD, so if I wore it for a month continuously it was nearly 3 minutes fast by the end of the month. That also annoyed me. In the end, I ended up selling it to help finance the purchase of a JLC Master Ultra Thin Moon. And I really love Omega, but, you know, JLC 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

I agree the blue dialed version is stunning but in the end it’s hard to beat the original Globemaster for its history and understated elegance IMO.

I am interested in buying the original blue GM alligator strap. I already have the grey strap with deployant clasp and like the option of being able to switch between straps. If anyone wants to sell theirs.. drop me a PM!

Currently on rubber..
