·SOLD or trade this lovely little vintage Omega Genève 601, reference 135.070, in honest condition.
History: I purchased this watch from a USA dealer of art books and jewelry in November, 2021. I’m quite fond of this watch, but find it too similar to my 165.001 to justify keeping both in my collection.
Serial: 30M range, which places manufacture date circa 1969~1970.
Dial: Original silver dial with radial sunburst and metal Omega logo. Dial takes on a lovely champagne color at low angles. There are a few minor blemishes which are barely noticeable and do not distract while wearing the watch. Of note are two blemishes around the center which are visible under magnification, as shown. Very minor discoloration at the very edge of the dial, also only visible under magnification.
Indices: Excellent condition dial hardware, indices have original black paint detail. Indices have intact tritium markers.
Hands: Good condition, with some minimal pitting on the hour hand toward the center, visible only under magnification. Intact tritium insets.
Luminous: Tritium has taken on a lovely cream tone which matches throughout. Little glow, fades quickly after charge, completely dark within 20 seconds.
Case: Good condition 34mm case, original facets are still clearly visible. Well defined edges on the lugs and the bezel area. Scuffs and scratches commensurate with age. I’ve hand polished the bezel area/lug top facet to remove scratches between the lower lugs. To preserve the original facets, I stopped short of polishing out the two small dings visible on the lower right lug.
Case Back: Original brushed finish with “WATERPROOF” engraving. Round spring inside case back. Minor blemishes seem to indicate this was previously worn on a NATO strap.
Crown: Correct Omega domed crown. Possibly an older replacement, as it appears slightly newer than the rest of the watch.
Crystal: Vintage armored acrylic crystal with stepped outer edge. Likely aftermarket with no visible signature. Appears to have been with the watch for quite a long time so I hand polished it instead of replacing it. Some crazing remains along the edge along the bezel area. Omega crystal PZ5004 is readily available for ~$62 should you choose to replace it.
Movement: Excellent rose-gold-tone caliber 601, with matching appearance throughout. Black polished screws show little to no visible damage to the heads. A few minor marks on the bridges, and some scuffing on the train bridge.
Service: Manipulating the crown feels like a new watch with minimal play. Watch winds with ease and keeps excellent time. Service marks are visible inside case back, last full service date unknown. My watchmaker placed silicone grease in the crown and lubricated the stem in November 2021. If you plan to wear this daily, you should have the movement serviced.
Bracelet: Aftermarket seven-row beads of rice (a la 1503 / 1037) with 800-style end links. The bracelet itself is unimpressive, but the end links fit the case well. Should you decide to pair this with an authentic Omega seven-row BoR, these end links can get you started.
Photos: I’ve attempted to highlight all the defects I’m aware of in these pictures, showing the watch at its worst angles. Expect this watch to look even better in person and on your wrist.
Water Resistance: Assume this watch is not currently water resistant, but expect a competent watchmaker could make this water resistant again by replacing seals, crown, and crystal.
Scope: This listing includes only the Omega Genève 135.070 described above and the aftermarket bracelet shown attached. This listing does not include box, papers, other accessories, or the Seamaster shown for comparison in the last pic.
Shipping: Asking price includes USPS Priority Mail with signature confirmation to USA addresses. Outside USA, postage additional at cost.
Payment: PayPal (preferred) or Venmo. PayPal G&S add 4%. Other services negotiable.
Sold $499
Trades: Looking for a straight trade, 1930s-1960s, in similar condition. Think Seamaster / Conquest 9000 / Tank / something else interesting. No radium, no gold plate/cap.
References, video, additional photos and/or video call upon request.
Return/refund only if grossly misrepresented. I’m an individual watch collector, not a business. I’m in no way affiliated with Omega or its affiliated companies.
I've described this piece to the best of my knowledge and as accurately as possible. Please PM me with any questions or concerns.
