I had to follow up and let you know the current state of the situation. I dropped the watch off at the Omega dealer yesterday. He contacted me today and told me that they had wound the watch yesterday and placed it in their safe for observation. According to them, the watch had kept accurate time and maintained power for 24 hours. He asked me to hold on to the watch and test it a bit more before sending it to Omega.

The watchmaker who serviced it had told me the same thing. He commented that the watch is basically new inside and I get the feeling that he is a good guy. I asked the watch dealer whether the watch could be magnetized and he thought that was a possibility. I don't know if this means anything, but I downloaded an App for the iPhone (lepsi) which is supposed to detect magnetism from watches. I calibrated the App and tested it with my new Orient and Seiko automatic watches as well as a quartz watch from 2000; it detected nothing. When I take the Omega near the sensor, it detects magnetism. Does this mean anything?

I guess fate did not intend for my watch to go back to Omega quite yet. As long as the watch is not being damaged, I would like to demagnetize it and test it again before re-sending it for service.

You have your watch at an Omega dealer and they don`t demagnetized it?
They did not demagnetize it, but as they are not a service center I was not really expecting them to do so. The jewelry store that serviced it recently may or may not have demagnetized it. When I first got the watch back from the service, it was very accurate as long as it was on my hand. It could not build up a power reserve and would stop running within 4 hours of being taken off. Somehow, the behavior of the watch changed. As the dealer observed, it can maintain power reserve now and continue functioning overnight. The only thing is that it was losing about 15 seconds per hour.

I demagnetized the watch 4 hours ago and it is no longer losing time. If the watch maintains time and power reserve, I am happy. If there is an internal problem that is leading to the formation of a magnetic field, that should become obvious over the next week. I will run the watch with and without the chronograph engaged and see what happens.

Try another dealer. If it wont run for 40 hours plus then it is not running right. I doubt Magnetism has anything at all to do with it since it usually affects the rate rather than the reserve. Magnetised watches usually run fast as some of the hairspring coils can bind.

You are being fobbed off with bullshit. Take it to someone who will treat it seriously. The DD module needs either servicing or better still replacing. An OSC are the best people to do this.
