Omega De Ville

Hi everyone! I need a little help. It is my boyfriends birthday coming up and he’s always wanted an omega watch, problem is I know nothing about them or how to spot fakes. I have an offer accepted but my suspicion is telling me to check with experts before pressing buy.

Can you look at the pictures and tell me if you think this is the real deal or a fake? I am most interested in this one since it is advertised as coming with paperwork.

Let me know! Appreciate all help!

It looks legit to me. I have verified that the serial number calls up the correct reference:

Serial number: 58236198
Article ref: 78243101

DeVille quartz with a Cal. 1532. Be aware that this is quite a small watch - more of a ladies size:

WATER-RESISTANCE : 3 bar
CALIBRE : 1532
DIAMETER : 29.00 MM
LUG SIZE BRACELET : 19.00 MM

Hmm the description says 35mm face, is this not correct?

Where is the crown in the first pic? Odd. And does the Omega icon look wonky?

I think the first picture they have done a standard background removal and it removed the crown. At least thats what it looks like. I dont think the icon looks wonky but I was unsure about the number engraved on the back being off centre - is that normal?
Also in one of the pictures it looks like the back is open, but I asked the seller and he says it is closed perfectly

Hmmm...I checked the dial diameter and it says 29.5 mm, so clearly the case can't be 29. So if the seller is saying that the case is 35 mm that would make sense, but I would verify that with them.

Does he like this particular watch?

This is pretty far down the list of watches I’d think of when someone says they want an Omega.
Does he want modern or vintage? Personally I’d much rather have a 60’s DeVille than this modern one. If he want modern id say a 90’s/00’s Dynamic or Railmaster is much better.

I think you might be right, and I’m being swayed by the fact it has documents, which I haven’t found too often.

I have another option but the case has a small crack - is it possible to get this replaced easily and quickly?

It also doesn’t show any serial numbers or inside the watch which is sneaky. They do offer third party authentication so I could opt for that.

And a third option but I’m not sure about manual winding 😵‍💫

Is it super important?
No, keep posting your pics, I'll get sick of scrolling through the noise to find a clear pic and I'll move on.

They’re very different watches. Firstly I’d try and narrow down what you’re looking for. Is it vintage or more modern?
Ignore documents. You can’t wear them. Much, much better to have a nice watch with no box or papers, than a crap watch with box and papers.

Personally I’d go for a 60’s Seamaster.

The only guidance I have is silver with leather strap. I think he will prefer something minimal and elegant, but clean and fresh. The seamaster I have posted, does it look legit to you? How many fakes are there out there?

And also how easy is it to change the cracked glass?

A crystal change on something like this is 15 to 20 minutes of work. Cost of the crystal is roughly £30 UKP. Any decent watchmaker should do be able to do it.
My advice would be to avoid anyone who is confused about whether they are a watchmaker or a cobbler.

Not for an Omega crystal...unless someone is selling them for well below their cost.

Looks like Cousins have genuine Omega acrylic crystals atarting at £15 (£30 with tension ring).

Please caveat that with the fact that I 've no idea exactly what crystal the OP will need. But generally, even genuine Omega crystals are not expensive.

Well, I buy them directly from Omega and they cost way more than what you are describing, so these are either old stock that Cousins is selling way under the current cost (which would be a bargain and I would buy up all they had for some models) or they are not genuine Omega crystals. It's a bit of both.

You might want to look at the site you posted a little closer...

If you follow your link and then click on the page for Omega crystals by size, the answer is there:

https://www.cousinsuk.com/product/glasses-acrylic-by-size

To show you the relevant text I took this screen shot - these are generic crystals...not Omega:

If I look at the Speedmaster crystal, it is again a generic crystal:

A new genuine Omega crystal would be close to 90 pounds based on Omega's current price. So the few they have that are real are indeed a bargain. These are likely obscure crystals because Cousins has not had access to buy genuine for 10 years now, so this is the left overs.

Cousins has very few Omega crystals left in stock. If they’re £30 theyre likely generic crystals.
