I think there has been a big mis-understanding here. Surely the seller thinks he is asking $2,850. To sell it at $285 you would have to be bat-shit mental. If it looks too good to be true...
I have already asked the seller to confirm the price. And yes, I am actually expecting him to say $2,850.

Hmm, looking more closely, mine seems to have small prints just above the hour indices where those belonging to @hoipolloi and @Noddyman don’t.
The ticks exist they are just hidden by the markers. Notice how the second O in chronometer is also different than mine. Different dial manufacturers would be my reasoning.

$2850 is still a good deal, cross hair is a bonus.

At $2.850, still below market assuming it is a gold dial version.

If this is going to be a face-to-face deal, should be at a bank or possibly a police station. Many cities will allow you to meet in the lobby or provide a room for a quick transaction.

Seller is sending caseback pictures with 18k on it!?! The seller came out of a cave after beiing there for 60 years if he's selling for $ 285?

It's only been 15-20 years since gold was really cheap, not 60 😉

Lots of fake auctions lately and some are very convincing from hacked accounts so sellers appear to check out. There are the usual very obvious ones based on silly prices, but some are listed with a solid but tempting price where you think it could a decent buy. I Hit a buy it now on a newly listed LeCoultre a few months back and it was a hacked account. I thankfully got money back through PayPal but I was sweating for a few weeks!

Not very sure about the fonts on the dial

Agreed the pics aren’t very sharp but would you care to share your concerns?

Well, after a bit of back and forth with the seller, I asked him point blank regarding the price. I was nice about it, expressing my concern that he was selling it ridiculously low. He clammed up abruptly, giving me one-two word responses. A few minutes later the listing got pulled - it was nowhere to be found. I decided to ask for a meet up in a city halfway between our location since he was still replying to my messages. Got nothing after that.

The watch may have been legit, and it would have been a great buy. Unfortunately, I heard alarm bells in the distance.

Thanks for all the help, guys. Knew I could count on OF folks!

This is good one regarding some basics for: "The most commonly counterfeited stainless steel cases are 14900, 167.005 and 168.005. In this short essay, the dog leg lugged 14900 (earliest version of this style) and 167.005 will be reviewed." It is more focused on stainless 167.005, but still interesting 😀
Ask seller for the picture of the watch on the scale 😁

IMO, the seller was either directed to this thread, or somehow realized that he was about to make a huge mistake.

Something tells me you may get another shot at this watch, but at a more market correct price.

You are right the pics are blurry, but i don't like how the C in Constellation is nearly touching the O, and the A in Automatic is not inlined with the H in Chronometer below

I just saw the same seller post another watch for sale. This time a vintage Rolex with a Mickey Mouse dial for $300 USD. Can I ask the mods for permission to post those pics here (since I’m not contemplating on buying the Rolex but will be posted in the context of gauging the seller’s credibility) or should I start a new thread in the Rolex section?

It would be better to start a new thread.

However, since you’ve established that this seller is playing some kind of game or scam, I’d rather you not give them any extra publicity.
