Advice on an Omega Constellation Pie Pan

I’ve been thinking of purchasing a Constellation Pie Pan 18k for the past decade but never pulled the trigger. I sported one the other day and wanted to know if it looks genuine and whether it’s been redialed or been polished.

If it’s good, what would be a good price ?

The seller says circa 1966 168005/6 with an Omega 1/561 Caliber.

I never understand when people say “I’ve seen this watch for sale, what’s a good price for it?”

Just mention the price in your post and people will give their opinion.

Sorry it’s an auction so it will start at around £1000.00 and 25% on top.

Come on @Davidt, just give the man what he wants. He joined OF to get a free authentication and valuation ... hop to it.

Hi @Cookhamdean
Welcome to the forum. Delightful to see another vintage enthusiast.
I am not an expert( click on the avatars to see the profile and give weightage to opinions accordingly).
I feel the dial looks all authentic and in good condition. The dogleg case too has maintained its contours well. Though not the sharpest I have seen in the forum it being a soft solid gold case it’s in great condition. It has its fair bit of light scratches so not recently polished and very well may never have been.
I like the onyx insert indices, beats the black paint.
The date window being there is not generally appreciated by collectors, though personally I don’t mind it, and may help bring the cost down a bit.
Bracelet looks omega this needs to be confirmed. If omega it should be solid gold.
As for the price, I think the watch head is worth around 2.5 - 3k usd. The bracelet if solid gold will be according to gold weight{ slightly above if omega(maybe 200usd)}. If not solid gold or omega it’s not worth anything. My guesstimate will be 2k for the bracelet( gold, omega)
The watch originally came in a strap. Original buyer may have chosen the bracelet from the boutique omega catalog at time of purchase.
Crown is correct which is nice
My estimation for the whole watch will be around 5k.

Watch and bracelet are 18K gold.

And the biding is up to 4500 €/4800$ including the premium.
Not so nice with the engravings on the case back..

But a 1966 year watch (my year)!

👍

For the record - whilst some appreciate the elegant simplicity of a no-date watch - date complications are ‘not appreciated’ by a minority of collectors, whilst the vast majority are more than happy with a date complication on their vintage watches.

No-date watches do tend to attract a premium as they are desirable to some and were produced in fewer quantities than their with-date stable-mates.

I'd more describe them as numerical scratchings....they look awful, but on the plus side they're not too deep so could be removed. Still the bidding seems already toppy taking them into account....There's clearly a lot of 18kt weight in that price

I think every watch enthusiast had seen these one 😂

Honestly, quite like it. Obviously would be best without the number markings (who the hell thought it was a good idea, seriously!!)

Looks sharp, clean. They don’t come up that often in 18k, and they always fetch good money, so your chances of getting one « cheap » are close to none anyway!

When I was a child, my grandmother got it into her head that it would be a good idea to mark every item in our house with an identifier to discourage theft. I think police were advising it at the time.

So she borrowed an engraving pen and wrote my mother's social security number on everything she could get her hands on: jewelry, platters, knick-knacks, cookware, etc. At the time I obviously had no concept of how absurd this was, but decades later, I am still finding objects that were vandalized in this way.

I like engravings when the people obviously cared about each other - That works for me every time. This one, not so much.

And I do like the date window!

Absolutely right, the ratio is about 10 to 1.

Lots of them were made in 14k solid gold, too.
Here is one of them.

I enjoy engravings of names or other messages, numbers not so much. any clue what they could signify?
