As I am much more a vintage collector, I lover he older constellation. Problem for me to wear is the relatively small size. The new ones are beautiful and have a great quality but the price is not low enough for me to buy one or two additional ones. But the blue ones or with calendar I would prefer. Globemaster

You are right in thinking that there is a lot of love for vintage Constellations but not so much for the more modern versions.
    (pre-Globemaster/Constellation)
The 'claw-cased' Constellations were the height of desirability when they were produced but are an acquired taste.
Couple that with the move to quartz movements, then they don't get much air-time here.
I do know that they remain incredibly popular in the east, I worked with two Korean guys and both owned (quartz) claw-cased Constellations which they were very proud of.

Yes you are correct. Quartz in still popular in regions like India and Nepal. And off course, constellation series is very popular. I remember it to be a very common watch in my country.

Yes. The new constellations are incredibly expensive. They have made it bigger but may be the price point is a deterrent.

The double eagle models can be had for decent prices second hand - especially considering the MSRP, the degree of finishing and the movement. Perhaps a reflection of their relative impopularity?

This is of course a crystal ball question, but anyone else think they’re undervalued and will pick up at some point? They’ve been growing on me a little bit lately.

Yes but I think in some of the pictures doing the rounds he was wearing a gold Seamaster. This was his Pie Pan which got auctioned....

I've only have the one, a very under rated watch, and I wouldn't mind a Mission Hills chrono at some point.

Hell has a place for people who don’t like Connies.

Personally, I don't think so. The design has a distinct 80's vibe whereas the 50's/60's versions as well as the Globemaster are classically elegant. Also, I somehow associate the claw design with women's watches due to the marketing campaigns with Cindy Crawford and Nicole Kidman.

Also, they're ugly (the watches, not the ladies) :whistling:

Eye of the beholder and all that. But I’ll agree that the design is not for everyone and that may very well prevent them from becoming collectible later on.

Also, I’ve been given to understand that ‘double eagle’ doesn’t refer to all Connies with the claw design, but only the relatively recent (2005 or so?) bigger, sportier ones with the fat, sharp claws as in my picture above and also @Stufflers Mom’s (...so not the more dressy nineties model with the small case and rounded, thinner claws pictured below).

    Anyone know if that’s correct?

No worries, it was just a joke. Tastes are different and may not correlate with a watch's desirability in the general market. It's still possible for them to take off (see the Newman Daytonas, which were not very popular when released, either).
I've never got Genta's designs and still some have become classics. All fine by me. :)

They could, but arent they too main stream and in mass market to get really popular? I mean to become something like Rolex sports models now are, the accessibility of these watches have to be low. But for the new Constellation, they seem to be everywhere!
