Hello All,

Looking for some advice with purchasing this Omega Pie Pan Constellation 168.005. The seller claims that the dial has not been redone and the watch is in original condition. I negotiated to $1250 for the watch. A bit concerned because all I am referencing is other similar online listings and not sure if this is a good example/price to buy or if I should walk away. I appreciate all thoughts !

Welcome

I need hi Rez closeups in natural light, preferably in focus, to offer an opinion.

Movement appears extremely rough, as does the case.

The watch looks legit to me, but I see a lot of warning signs. Dirty dial, wear in the movement, etc.

Signs of a money pit waiting to happen.

Thank you for your comments. I requested a closeup dial picture. He also claims the watch was recently serviced February 2023 as marked on the case back.

He provided this closeup. Looks like his camera isn’t the best but it shows the dial a bit more. Does appear to be a deep scratch in the glass (original).

There is an awful lot of what appears to be gunk in that movement if it was recently serviced. And I'm curious if the stem is too long, or if the seller just took photos with the crown pulled out. Similar issue with the cracked/gauged crystal. Overall, I'm skeptical about the service, which makes me skeptical about the seller.

However, the watch can be serviced and repaired. The main thing to decide is if you are pleased with the condition.

Yeah, at 1250$ that’s an instant pass. The recent service is BS, there are quite a few issues that would need to be addressed and the dial is heavily spotted. Move on, don’t look back.

How do you negotiate on a watch when you aren’t sure of the condition nor whether you actually want it?

Hi

seller provided these new pictures if it helps.

Hi-rez , natural light and FOCUSED pix are a requisite for an informed decision.

Hard Pass if a seller refuses....and as you see, he slipped and showed just a peek of what that dial will actually be in hand.

Double Hard Pass

With that spots on the dial i would pay max 900-1000 (with bracelet). You can find clean and nice examples around 1200-1400.

The prices some individuals ask for examples of a watch that needs a complete overhaul is crazy. As stated above, you can get a clean example, just serviced, for $1200-1500. I wouldn't pay a penny over $750ish for this. Unless I see papers from a reputable place this watch was "serviced" etc., I'm a good pass on this.

Thank you everyone for your wisdom! Definitely staying away from this one, very sketchy seller as well. I am very thankful and am deep diving into the different posts like the “learn to fish” in the forum to educate myself for the future.
