Hey,
I am very new to this site to try and get some answers on a watch that was passed down to me by my grandfather.

All I know is that it’s rare and I think the time period of production was 1980-84.

I would really appreciate it if someone could educate me on this magnificent timepiece.

Thanks.

Quartz manhattan. 1980s as you suggest. Not sure i would call it particularly rare. Not overly popular with collectors but of great sentimental value to you I assume so wear on good health.

Try google searching omega 198.0140 and you will find other examples and you can research further

Thanks for your comment, I only thought this particular watch was rare due to the movement. Never seen one like this with that quartz movement. It’s always been automatic or with a 1431 quartz movement. If was much of a bother do you think you could put a price on it?

Thanks again

Do a sold listings search on eBay for the reference number provided above. That will tell you what it actually sold for.

I'm sure it's worth more sentimentally to your family than its monetary value.
Look at recent sales on auctions sites for a guide if that's where your interest lies.

It’s nice to know its origin. Looks like your grandfather took care of it. Did he wear it only for special occasions or was it a daily watch? Is that the original box? Enjoy the watch.

It was his favourite watch. He had many OMEGA watches, he was a collector in my eyes. No, it’s not the original box. I think it’s still at my grandmothers house, the box I have right now was from one of his Seamaster watches which I use to keep it in good nick.

The Manhattan is not necessarily a favorite among us collectors but I must confess I love them, especially the quartz powered as they wear so nice and slim on the wrist. They also have that snazzy New York style cutting-edge look to them 👍
