Just had my watch returned from my watchmaker who I thought had sent my watch to Omega for service, winder was broke, but was otherwise going perfect and keeping great time. Turns out the watch was serviced by swisstimeservices uk. The finish on the watch case was not great and the watch is going one minute a day fast which was unheard of with this watch. Anybody else got any experience with swisstimeservices?

Do a site search for swiss time services or STS. You'll find them mentioned a lot.

Welcome @Dark_Comet

STS are probably the premier independent watchmaker in the UK.
They are Omega certified.

Wondering why your watchmaker would send your watch to another watchmaker to replace a broken crown? (Unless they couldn’t access parts of course)

STS shouldn’t have touched your case unless asked to.
If they serviced the watch, the watch should be under warranty, so have it sent back and I’m sure they’ll put right whatever is wrong.

-it would be good to see pictures of your watch.
(Especially before and after shots if you have them. )

The actual shaft on this watch is a split shaft and when you wanted to change the time the shaft actually came out. What is annoying me so much is the dreadful finish on the case and bracelet. Omega in Switzerland as in previous years would have replaced the case had it been badly marked. This watch kept immaculate time, now its between 30 to 60 secs per day fast. Reason the watchmaker gave was because the watch was vintage. I bought this watch in 1978 and with the exception of one occasion it was always serviced by Omega in Switzerland. I'm really so annoyed they sanded the case and bracelet. Seemingly its a standard finish according to swisstimeservices. Just goes to show the quality of work between Omega Switzerland and the UK is night and day. It is already gone back to swisstimeservices with a not too happy covering letter.

I will post pictures as soon as it gets back. Wouldn't mind the watch is a steel gold.

The last (and only) watch I had serviced there - a 10 year old co-axial - went back twice under warranty. Fisrt time as it was running out of timing spec. Second time it just stopped dead.

I asked for a copy of the timing results (which unlike good watchmakers they don't give you) and got a meaningless screenshot. Meaningless, in that even professionals on here couldn't deduce anything much from it when I asked for some help interpreting it.

In future, the co-axials I have will go to Omega (I think the prices are the same as STS ?) although that's only 2, and I'm not buying any more.

Older Omegas go to a non-certified independent the same as my other watches. They're all simple manual wind 3 handers.

For the common simple calibres if replacement parts are essential, I'm pretty sure there are privately held stashes of spares still around.

If there were to be a parts problem (it hasn't happened up to now) then I'd either go to Omega or leave it in a cupboard - got plenty of other watches to wear !

I'm gutted with the finish they put on this watch. Instead of a matte finish you could see the streaks in the metal. Got talking to a director of swisstimeservices and he says the reason the timing is out could be due to knocks etc. during postage and the finish is a standard finish. I never got the watch back from Omega Switzerland in this condition. Anyway I will wait n see how I get it back. All I can say in closing is their quality control must be dreadful.
