Omega Constellation Calendar Cal. 504 - Seeking Case Back & Advice

I trust that you’re all doing well. I’m reaching out for a bit of guidance regarding my latest acquisition, an Omega Constellation Calendar Cal. 504. The piece is in rough shape, missing both its crown and case back.

My watchmaker has inspected the movement and confirmed that it’s in good enough condition to be serviced. I’ve managed to source a period-correct crown, but locating an appropriate case back (which I believe to be ref. 2943, based on my research) has proven quite difficult.

The dial shows its age and wear rather honestly, and I intend to leave it untouched. My goal is to bring this historically significant timepiece back to life as faithfully as possible.

I’ll attach a few photos for reference. Any leads on a case back, or general insights from those who have tackled similar restorations, would be deeply appreciated.

Many thanks in advance for your time and expertise.

Kind regards,

Looks like it has been through a fire and is heat/smoke damaged
Hi Cristos. Yes, that's very possibly the case.

Yes, finding a case-back could require patient hunting. Given the overall condition, it's not something I would pursue, but if you're interested in restoring it, then best of luck. I'm not sure what specific question you are asking.

I would try to find a custom made glazed caseback . They show up on ebay from time to time...

Wow. Did not expect that. What a unique and interesting look.

Fire damage could be the new tropical!

Thanks! Most of the credit must go to my watchmaker. He's really good!!

I honestly like the dial (even in the 1st pictures), I think it turned out great! The clear case back is neat as well.

Wow, that dial looks amazing considering what it originally looked like. Mind if I ask how much this restoration cost? (And how did your watchmaker clean up that dial?!)

Thank you. Breakdown of the costs are:

$150 - Watch
$155 - Case Back
$50 - Crown
$240 - Restoration Cost

$595 Total

I asked him not to clean the dial, so he just lightly dusted it and polished the hands and hour markers.

Very unexpected result I admit I was quite sceptical. The clear Caseback is a nice solution too. I wonder how readily available these are for variety of case references. Enjoy your watch it’s a real survivor.
