Hello,

I'm acquiring an omega constellation as a phd present from my family. The thing is I found two that are in pretty good condition and the exact same model, just one has a glass date magnifier and the other doesn't. Which is the original glass. See pics. The pictures are ordered with the non magnifier as first and magnifier as second.

Thanks yall! I want this to be a watch i wear forever to signify my headache of a phd.

Both look quite polished first one is worse in that regard. Need more better photos looking at lugs at angle to tell.
Make decision based on condition of watch rather than crystal.

welcome @jamb4

Cyclops crystals could be ordered as a special order item.
They are not original to the design but could be original to the watch when purchased.
IMHO a Constellation should not have a cyclops but if a good watch had one it shouldn't stop you buying it as it could be changed at service.

Agree with @SOG53, please post better pics (not screen grabs) so that we can advise you on the condition of the watches.
BTW, for clarity, its better to group all pics from one watch together rather than interspersing them.

Thank you both! I'm new to the vintage game so I don't know what would an over polished watch mean. I can totally tell on the caseback it was over polished as some of the stars and stippling of the observatory are washed off.

I have attached more pics right here. They are grouped by each different watch. This comment will be for the non cyclops crystal:

I would avoid that first one, you can't even see some of the stars. Please read the Learn How to Fish thread to understand polishing.

The big 'thing' about a dogleg Constellation case are the facets on the lugs.
While gold cap watches are never quite as sharp as SS or solid gold, a decent version will have clearly defined facets, both of these watches have lost their sharp facets.

it would be worth your while perusing this thread, dedicated to dogleg Constellations.

BTW what are the asking prices for these two watches?

Thanks for the clarification and resource. Good information to know.

They're both $1950 from Chrono24 and authorized dealer/certified so was willing to take the chance given they are forsure authentic.

I have a lead on another through reddit /watchexchange but waiting on them to get it in for around $1400for a very similar model and still gold capped.

Price is on the high side for somewhat over polished watches with incorrect crowns.

Do you have a picture of the Reddit example?

There is a steel version with correct crown and bracelet here on the forum for less. Dial is not perfect though.

Thanks for the heads up! I'll hold off on those then.

The reddit source will get a couple ones in 2 weeks so I'll check those out once they're up.

I didn't even realize the crown was wrong. Thanks for pointing that out. So much to look out for. I know the movement, what the numbers should be on the case back. Not polishing and crown. All great info. Thanks!
