Omega constellation advice - damaged lugs?

Hi there

I am a new member. Currently I Am waiting for my first Omega to come back from service. It turned out that my dad had a Seamaster 600 he bought for himself back in the day, that had been lying in a drawer since before I was born. (I am 40 years Old). No wonder I was ecstatic. While I am waiting, my interest has turned towards constellations, and I found this one, but I am unsure if I should pull the trigger. The crown looks original, the dial looks good and it looks like it has not been polished. What I do not like, is the upper right lug that seems damaged. Maybe by to many strap changes?
What do you guys say? Should I avoid this Watch?

probably doesn't look so bad in the flesh vs the close up pics. I guess it's a matter of price. the damage could be smoothed out and blended so it doesn't look so rough. However factor in a service as the watch looks to be honest but neglected. Not sure about those headlinks too.

The lug damage was probably caused but the hollow end links. Nice dial and hands. Crown looks original too. You'd need better pictures to do the watch justice, which makes me think they were not taken by a dealer. Could be a great deal. I'd buy it at the right price.

Thanks alot for your replies. They are really helpful.
It is not listed by a Watch dealer, but by a shop sellling all kinds of stuff. So they are definately not specialists. They Want 850$ It. It is unserviced, I have taken that Into Account. Here are some extra pictures.

$850 seems rich for me. I'd like to see you get it for $600 to $700 as you will be spending for a service and probably a pair correct head links to get that bracelet up to par.

Crystal is cracked. You'll need to replace it. Not a fan of the lugs either, but the medallion is crisp. If you could source a donor case for that watch, you'd end up with a really nice watch. Price is okay I guess. See if you can negotiate it. I'd resell the bracelet and put it on a strap, but that's just my preference.

Update: I believe that bracelet to be a put together with generic links and head links. Clasp might be ok but more pics would be needed to confirm. The notion of a donor case would definitely put this watch way beyond reasonable cost to straighten out. Warm up the gouges in that one lug a bit and it's just fine. It's an old watch after all.

Probably true

One more thing. The watch is listed as ref.167.005 cal 551
My research tells me that that particular reference is a no date constellation. Right?
That is a little strange to me.

Do you happen to have a picture of the (inner) caseback? It is possible the original caseback was lost or replaced so it will have the wrong reference stamped on it. And if so, I would negotiate the price even more.

I am reviving the thread. I have not totally lost lost interest in the watch, but I have one more question. In the picture of the movement it says 551. But if this caliber does not have a date function, then how can the watch have it after all?

Because it is a Frankenwatch. Put together from parts of different watches that are interchangeable.

As @gatorcpa says, it can't be a cal 551 with a date function.

However, an alternative answer is that the watch pictured with the open case back is not the same watch as pictures showing the medallion.
The end links on the BOR are different.
(although I suppose it could also be a really messed up watch on which they changed the BOR)

But in principle, it cannot be a 167.005 or cal 551 with a date, so something is awry with both the description and/or the images supplied.

So, if you are still interested in the watch, get the seller to get their act together and give you clear pictures, inside and out, of a single watch (including the inner case back) with a definitive description of what they are selling.

I would pass on it. Especially if you are new to vintage watches. If you want a nice watch to enjoy i wouldn't hesitate spending 200USD more for a better watch. In this case there are just too many things that are causing problems or at least questions.
Have fun finding one!

Thank you for your guidance. I am glad I took my time to ask for advice, and I feel lucky that I, with my limited knowledge sensed something was off and did not pull the trigger.

Is it just me or are the hands kind of thick, especially the hour hand? Definitely a funny looking watch
