·- Intro: Up for sale today is a quintessential piece of mid-century horological history: a 1954 Omega Constellation reference 2782. I picked this up from MtV a while back, but it's time to move it on to a better home. It embodies timeless design with a perfectly balanced, no-date crosshair dial and a sharp stainless steel case.
- Dial & Hands: Original dial that has retained its white color beautifully, appearing with a hint of eggshell against lighter backgrounds. It features a mix of applied yellow gold trapezoidal markers and Arabic numerals. All the writing is fully intact, including “Chronometre” with the French “-re” spelling. There is still a very faint discoloration right of the center, but it isn't noticeable on the wrist. The lume has aged to an attractive light brown and glows green under UV.
- Case: 34.5mm stainless steel case (approx. 42mm lug-to-lug, 18mm lug width) that is sharp and honest. It retains well-preserved edges on the lugs and the distinct bevel on the bezel. It shows minor scratches everywhere, commensurate with its age. The gold caseback medallion shows all stars; but it has obviously been polished in the past, however the brushing and writing are still present. (Caseback is engraved "F. Krejci".)
- Crown: Original Omega service crown in the correct thick decagonal style.
- Crystal: Domed acrylic crystal in good condition with no noticeable scratches.
- Movement: Powered by the legendary Caliber 354 "bumper" automatic chronometer movement (Serial: 14229576). It is in beautiful condition, clean, and all original. Mechanically sound and winding smoothly, having been fully serviced by MechaHorology in 2022 (I can provide records).
- Bracelet/Strap: Period-correct two-tone 5-row Omega Beads of Rice (BoR) bracelet. Shows signs of stretch and wear typical for its era, and suits the watch perfectly. I would knock off $200 if you wanted to get the on a leather strap with Omega buckle.
