Hi,

I have been looking for a long time for an vintage Omega Constellation and I have finally bought one today at a auction, I have not picked it up yet but I would really appreciate your expert opinions on it, I know many are re-painted etc and I hope this one are not, as far as I can see it looks ok, but not an expert.

Reference is - per the caseback - 2782/2799. But anyway: you already acquired it so perhaps not that relevant any more?

I Still can return it have 2days left, so would really appreciate if anyone can find something so I don’t find it out later on and don’t have the possibility to return it. Hopefully I don’t have to, I love it but would also want to know if something are re-finished or something so I know.

Many thanks,
Peter

it would help a lot if you could take clear, straight on, pics of the dial with hands moved away from text

High resolution photos of the dial and case from several angles would be helpful. It looks like the case may have been polished at some point. Since you've already bought it, do you mind telling us how much you paid?

Thanks for the answers, sorry don’t got any more pictures, these are the ones I have from the site, have not picked it up yet from the auction house, just if it’s anything that stands out or not from what you can see, and I’m happy with that and have done what I can 😀. I paid around 2,1k Euro, don’t known if it’s a good price but have had hard time to find a really old one That looks ok with the original crown and when I joined the auction I might got carried away 😀.

Really appreciate your time if you can see anything on it with the bad picture before I pick it up, after that I can take some new photos of it.

thanks for the help!

Unusual dial style for this reference. Pictures are not clear enough to render an opinion.

Case has been polished but not too badly. Medallion still has some the original contrast from factory.

I think that is the highest serial number (14.9 million) that I have seen on a cal. 354. I have a rotor cal. 501 Constellation with a lower serial number (14.8 million).

Hope this helps,

Hi Peter,

Welcome to OF.

As mentioned above, cant really comment much based on the blurry photos.
Are you looking for a vintage constellation only, or it must be gold/gold capped.
What's your requirements?

Thanks 😀

I’m new to collecting Watches and my eyes right now have been set on a old Connie, I might buy some more that are newer, but no don’t have any requirements other that it should be as original as it can get. I will keep my watches for many years and will probably be handed over to my son when he grow up so won’t sell them.

have got so far a Rolex datejust 41, omega seamaster prof 1120 and a old Certina that was my grandfather that started this collecting about a year ago, but many will come and I’m really into Omega, but very new in the market so I’m trying to read up on everything that I can and look for old special vintage watches, and some new one as well time to time 😀.

I think that the lugs are not as sharp as they could be, but I can still see some detail from the side photos. The dial is remarkably clean for a watch this old which gives me some pause, but I have a 1962 Constellation that has the original dial and is in mint condition, so it's certainly possible that the dial on this watch is genuine. Hopefully some of our resident Constellation experts will chime in with their thoughts.

You can look around the forum and at the sales sub forum. On and off there will be some nice Connie's up for sale.
Below are some of the Connie's at the sales subforum.
Not related to seller.

I like it, I think that it is nice shape with an original and interesting dial. I haven't seen many 18kt 2782's and the price paid was very fair IMO.

Even with auction fees, you did very well! I think it is original. A good start!

OK. Here is a good quality blow up of one of the photos from the auction listing:

Lettering looks proper to me. I think there are a few scratches on the crystal that affect the photos of the dial.

It is also possible that the dial was expertly cleaned at some point. I like it!

Put this one on my save list. The dial is uncommon and to my eyes in good shape.

Many thanks for all your time and comments, really appreciate it! I will def save this watch. Now the hunt for next watch starts, have my eyes on Ranchero, but after reading up on it feels like there are a lot of fake dials etc out there... don’t know if I want to take the chance to buy one 🙁

Also a really old “rare” seamaster, but not really sure what to look for yet.

anyone know a good page for example vintage rare omegas?

many thanks again

Anyone that have ordered,

EXTRACT FROM THE ARCHIVES from omega?

I looked at their website but could not find exactly what information they will give you, if anyone know?
