··@SpeedyBirthYearFor sale a nice entry level vintage Omega Constellation 168.004 in a nice, vintage condition. A lovely entry level vintage piece with a nice pie pan dial. I obtained it as part of a lot, got it back into running condition and have decided to pass it on at cost.
Please find an assessment of the watch below. I have attempted to be as brutally honest as can be. Also note that I am certainly not the first owner of this watch...
Dial: Nice pie pan silver dial, with all indexes and printing perfectly in tact. There are some minor spots and blemishes on the dial, but nothing that would detract from its charm when worn on the wrist.
Hands: Original hands. The original lume had fallen out so I have repainted those with non-luminous material in a nice, warm shade of white / yellow to match the patina of the watch.
Case: Nice fat case with sharp edges. Some hairline scratches but overall in very good condition for its age. Case back with good Constellation signature and some small dummy opening marks. Diameter 35mm excluding crown, and wearing slightly bigger as a result of its relatively large dial surface.
Movement and Serial: A nice automatic movement (calibre 561) with a serial in the 244xxxxx range, which I have just serviced. It's running a little over 200 degrees amplitude (lift angle 49 degrees), which admittedly is still on the low side. Timekeeping, however, is great at +3s a day on average, after having worn this one for nearly a week non-stop. One of the issues with this watch was the automatic bridge, which had cracked. So the colour difference visible in the movement shot below is explainable.
Runs smoothly with all functions (including semi-quick set date) working properly.
Crown: Omega signed, possibly original.
Bracelet: None. Comes with a very fresh black leather strap fitting the watch very nicely. Pictured below. I'll throw in an Omega signed buckle as a gift too. Originality of that is not guaranteed, I have my doubts, but it looks nicer than a generic one for sure. 😉
Can be shipped worldwide, although I would strongly prefer a F2F deal in the Netherlands given the value concerned and more importantly, the benefit of meeting a fellow OF-member in person.
No returns, please ask questions and extra pictures in advance. I am not making a habit out of selling, but I do have some - exclusively positive - references as a seller and buyer on this forum and could share more. I am pricing this one at my own cost (purchase of the watch as non-runner, plus parts) as this watch posed an interesting challenge and is worth reviving. After having taken a few years of watchmaking evening classes out our local watchmaking school, I've taken up servicing and reviving Omega watches as a hobby. Hence the price far below the market value, which also allows for a professional service in the future, should you so wish. I don't believe that to be required, though.
Here's your chance to own an attractive Constellation pie pan at a fraction of the usual price.
Plenty of references here on OF.
Price: EUR 975 (net to me and excluding shipping)
On to the pictures…
Of course, starting with a wrist shot. It's got presence for sure!
