Round three of my quest to free up funds for another arrival - and I‘d say this one is rather special. It’s a 168.001 „jumbo“ Constellation - at 37mm the largest vintage Connie Omega ever produced. If you want to know a little more, I highly recommend Desmond’s write-up:

http://omega-constellation-collectors.blogspot.com/2011/09/omega-constellation-168001-jumbo.html?m=1

Not many were produced anyway, and I believe the last 168.001 that was offered here might have been almost two years ago.
What distinguishes this example even further is the brushed dial structure - it’s the first 168.001 I’ve seen in that configuration and so far the only one in our Show-us-your-Jumbo-Connie thread here on OF. I’m sure it’s not a one-off, but it’s definitely an uncommon watch.

The Watch

Omega Constellation Automatic „Jumbo“
Reference: 168.001
Movement: cal. 561 Chronometer certified
Serial: 20390368
Year: 1963
Case: 37mm, stainless steel
Dial: original white-silver with a vertical brushing. Non-luminous with SS furniture.
Strap&buckle: Dark brown leather strap, it’s branded Omega but I believe it’s a repro. It’s still nice and soft. The buckle is an original and period-correct Omega example in matching stainless steel, though.

Condition

Very attractive overall shape, all-original.

Dial & Hands: The dome dial ranges in color from white to dark silver, depending on the angle and light. It’s vertically brushed, giving it a nice complexity and the large dial surface means it really shows. All the text is fully there, 3 lines at the top, as would be expected. Stainless steel furniture, non-luminous. I can’t find much deterioration except for a slight color change of the date window and the left part of the M in Omega in certain angles. As is typical, not only for 60s Omegas but especially for the jumbos as they were exclusively sold on the SEA market (humid countries), the dial shows some spots in the clear coat. I’ll include pictures to show it’s absolute worst side - basically, it all depends on the light and angle. With some daylight in angles that its realistically looked at on the wrist, it’s mostly not noticeable whatsoever. Especially in artificial light and/or sharp angles, when the dial seems almost grey, it can be seen. It’s still a stunner though.

Case: Original 37mm stainless steel case in very good shape. All bevels on the lugs are clearly defined, as is the bevel on the bezel. Caseback is also sharp, the medallion very pronounced. Only very minor small scratches, it’s very attractive indeed.

Crown: Original Omega crown, correct thin decagonal for the reference and the period-correct flat-feet one, too.

Crystal: Original Omega plexi in good shape with only minor scratches that can easily be polished out. This is particularly noticeable as finding a spare original crystal for these isn’t exactly easy due to their uncommonly large size.

Movement: Original cal. 561 automatic with date semi-quickset. The movement is in beautiful condition, very clean, all original. It winds very smoothly, keeps good time and has the power reserve to match. The gasket is also still soft and flexible, which makes me think this must’ve seen some care not too long ago, but I don’t have any papers on service history. Therefore, as usual, I recommend a service prior to regular use.

Strap&buckle: Dark brown leather strap that’s labeled “Omega” but probably isn’t. It’s still nice and fits the watch well, and it also comes with the 16mm stainless steel period correct and original Omega clasp.

Seller Reviews

Plenty reviews available here, but either my username is too short to use the search function for that or I’m not handling the forum software eloquently enough, which is entirely possible. Anyway:

I’m also happy to provide verification through my eBay-account that has been standing for 20 years, with >2000 reviews, 100% positive. Please do ask.

Payment, Shipping & Returns

Payment is accepted via PayPal F&F, bank transfer, Wise or cash in person. Happy to meet you for a personal transaction, of course. Coffee’s on me.

Since they don’t come up for sale very often, I’ll orient myself on a previous listing here in 2020 that sold for 1650. This here is a much more uncommon configuration in good and all original shape so I hope it’s fair to ask

1650€

The watch is located in Germany. Tracked shipping is usually

6€ nationally
12-14€ within the EU/GB/Switzerland
~15-50€ to the rest of the world

Happy to ship wherever, get in touch and I'm sure we can figure something out.

No returns please, unless I misrepresented the watch in any way.

Here are some pictures. Do let me know if you need more:

Some close-ups that show the spotting the way our eyes can’t see it, but which also show the brushed texture of the dial:

Original plexi:

Flat-foot, thin decagonal crown:

Sharp bevel on the bezel:

Pronounced solid-gold medallion:

Worst possible angle / light for the spotting:

…but it doesn’t always show in such angles:

And two more wrist shots from today, just because this thing is so much fun to wear:

I don’t even have time to press the like button before it’s gone. I held this piece in my hand and it’s really stunning. Congrats to the buyer, and also the seller of course.
