I have the 43.5mm ceramic seamaster 300m and a 44.25 grey side. I feel like the grey side wears smaller than the Seamaster despite being wider and (I think?) thicker.

How do you like the ceramic Speedmaster? I am thinking about getting one but I am scared because it's ceramic.

This thread on this forum has.....so far....produced 1 person who has a small chip on their ceramic case, and Omega fixed it.
Maybe, watch this forum for a month and see if there are any more 1st person accounts. I know ceramic watches can chip/break, but even my dishes and cups at home that are made of a much, much less quality and strength grade of ceramic seldom chip. And, I clank them real hard all the time.

@bdg5593 What do you intend to do wearing it?
I even dropped an original DSotM on the bathroom floor from about 50 cm without damage (wouldn't try that again!), glad Omega introduced a deployant shortly after.

I am pretty sure my "chip" was a manufacturing defect though. It was really invisible to the eye, even with a loupe, so would probably have slipped through quality control. You could feel it with your fingernail though, maybe a good check to do on all edges if you buy one.

@farmerboy

I have a DSOM Apollo 8 which is coming up to being two years old and still looks brand new but before I purchased it I checked with my home insurers about adding it to my policy. I have it covered for loss or theft or accidental damage in or out of the home or even abroad should that ever happen and at a cost of just £80 a year felt it was more than worthwhile. As I can wear it without any worry of if the worst was to happen. Also I only have a 19cm wrist and the Apollo 8 due to the manual movement wears really well and doesn't look to be too big IMHO.

Normal day to say stuff nothing TOOOOO crazy but if I am spending that much money on a watch I would hate for a freak accident to happen and it chips.

I have the Apollo 8 and 300m and was very skeptical of the ceramic at first. After wearing both in daily wear I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another. Have a jewelry policy for mine and my wife’s stuff and it is covered for damage but I am not worried about it.

Has there ever been a 42mm or smaller cased ceramic Speedmaster? I love the various Side of the Moon iterations, but my 6.5 inch wrist can’t pull off a 44mm watch.

I'm somewhere between 6.25 and 6.5 and as seen here, I couldn't quite pull it off. Gorgeous watch though.

Great watch, no issues so far. I have managed a very small nick on the titanium part of the Seamaster bezel, but the ceramic on both watches still looks new.

Tough as nail.
True story: I dropped it on a granite counter in the middle of strap change (maybe 2-3 feet above counter), a piece of counter chipped off. Watch is flawless. No joke. It’s tough as f.

Folks around here lovingly called it “the ex-wife” for a reason. It will break YOU.

Bonus: it’s light. Possibly the most comfortable 44.25mm watch ever made.

The phobia around ceramic cases is way, way overblown. Might you whack it the wrong way and crack or chip it? Sure, but your wife might do the same with her engagement ring and shatter the diamond, except those things rarely happen. There have been many thousands of ceramic watches made over the years by Omega, IWC and others. I've seen one or two examples of damaged cases. But in practicality it's a non issue in normal use for almost all users. If you like a ceramic cased watch buy it and wear it, no need to obsess about a very small chance of anthing happening to it. No need for special insurance or special handling. Too many people here get worked up over these sorts of things.

I have a Grey side of the moon and found this tarnishing. Does anyone have any idea how to sort it? Omega boutique have said they want to see it as they've never heard of anything like this happening before

Looks like something stuck to the surface. How have you tired cleaning it so far? Maybe some Isopropyl?

Do you mean the dark mark right of the pusher? Looks like sharpie or something. Try a solvent, don't think the ceramic can tarnish as such.

I'm terrified of making it worse. I dont know why given the properties of the ceramic but its just my luck to get it horribly wrong. Have you or anyone else tried it before??
Cheers for the help

Yes, I was advised to use a microfiber cloth but that was a waste of time.

Isopropyl (alcohol) will definitely not harm it, actually nothing would. Keep it away from the bezel, the lettering might be affected by anything more aggressive than alcohol. Also, don‘t dip the pusher under, there are seals in there.
