I was reading somewhere that the Omega cal 8912 had reliability issues with the quick hour time zone feature. Is this common? Mine has worked fine but then I only have to change it twice a year.

There's a spring inside the hour wheel that can fail, but in my experience it is directly related to how much the feature is used.

Typically with "normal" use, I would expect anything to fail within a normal serviced interval.

Does this also apply to the 89xx in general? With the date function, I assume the setting of hour hand takes place more frequently in order to set date.

Any caliber with the quick set hour hand.

I appreciate your reply. I’m wondering what your thoughts are on the cal 8912 movement as a whole in terms of dependability and durability, I see it often being compared to the Rolex cal 3135/3235. I’ve always enjoyed Omega watches but not well versed in all the various calibers and coaxial escapement. I’ve owned the Speedmaster cal 1861 and that movement has a history of durability and dependability. I own the newer cal 3861 and hope it proves to be the same.
