Hello, I took a gamble and bought my first bumper Omega. And I would like to know if the patina is authentic or a redial? I never saw this color and can't find it online.

Omega Ref 2374 / 3
Caliber 30.10.? (not sure)
Serial No: 10mio
Year: 1944 (after est1897.co.uk)

Are those findings right?

Is the crown original?
Minute and Hour Hands are missing lume,
what should I do that doesn't affect it's value as a collector?
Watch is running perfectly and keps time well so far, but where could I service such a watch in europe?

Thanks for your answers!
Greetings

Hi there!

That's a lovely watch you've bought there 😀

The crown may not be totally correct (I cannot remember the exact type used), but even so the style doesn't detract too much, IMO. The hands are certainly right and I do think they have some lume in them; it may have been replaced at some point though.

The dial colour looks great; I believe it started out grey and that ghostly aging is pretty common - here is one I used to own:

For watchmaker recommendation I'll suggest you contact Chris who has www.cjnwatch.co.uk. He has looked after a few of my watches and I cannot recommend him enough. For easy contact he is active here on the boards as @ChrisN - in some of his older threads you can read about his training as a watchmaker; fascinating stuff.

Think it looks fine, here is my 2374/3. I think it was the bowler hat crown they used

My examples have the bowlers and if you look up the replacement crown for the 2374 from Ofrei, you will get a bowler.
However, if you search this forum you will find some older posts with very original examples (MSN has a black dial one) which has a simple rounded crown a bit larger but very similar to the one you’ve displayed in the OP.

Thank you very much for responses! Was so happy to hear from all of you that the dial is genuine.

@ConElPueblo I remember reading your post ''learn how to fish'' when I started collecting Omegas, was a great help. Nice to know with the crown, your Bumper was very nice! Did my watch first started as a two color dial or did it only had one? Perfect I will contact Chris, how he saved your Yema Superman was impressive.

@tdn-dk Thanks, your 2374/3 looks amazing! Nice sharp edges and the dial is gorgeous! Thanks a lot for all the added informations, and really nice to know the price in 1946. Off the offerings of Omega in the 1945-1950 was the 2374/3 more on the expensive side or mid?

@Rman thanks for the Info will check it out. Did Omega back then used different crowns on the same watch or did they got swapped during service?

@TexOmega thanks! Those old dials are one of the sides of vintage watches that I love so much.

@speedbird11 beautiful dial and that patina on the hand is gorgeous! Thanks for sharing!

@TexOmega I really like that the small second is bigger than on the 2374 because of the layout, and again super nice hands with patina!

I really start to appreciate bumpers, I feel stupid for avoiding them for so long!
