I understand, it would be interesting to research if anyone kind find any other award dial examples. I tend to think the award text would have been just added to an otherwise stock dial, and the omega text is so poorly printed here, it makes me lean towards thinking the entire dial has been redone at some point, both stock omega text, plus award text. But that needs research.

you could get the 8 hour marker re-attached, the sub seconds hand is broken. Not sure if hour and minute hands are stock. If anyone can find other award example dials, and we confirm it has been reprinted, and it were part of my family, I would probably spend the money to have the dial redone again, much better quality, using another award dial example. Movement probably needs a service. I would would take off the flex bracelet which probably damage the gold fill on the lugs.
I’m planning on getting it looked at and fixed up by someone who knows what they’re doing when I get the chance and am more financially stable.

Don't rush into anything with regards to the dial. There wasn't any one way that these dials were made. It were mine, I'd see about getting a similar marker attached and call it done.

Just have the marker placed back on. Get it cleaned and place a leather strap on it. It's sitting at the bottom of the case

Only do the work if you plan to wear it.

He had 3 children, so guessing they got his championship rings. Many times though. Things like that are sold for the money they bring in. Old timers didn't get the money players get today. Not even a fraction. Lowest players in the league make more money than the probably the best players did back then. Sold rings help pay the bills when needed

Sad isn't it???I think I saw recently that the great Packer guard Jerry Kramer was auctioning off one of his superbowl rings. I just couldn't imagine doing that. If he needed money that bad, you'd think that one of his kids would either give him the money, or buy the ring. If he didn't need the money, and sold it anyway, that's even more sad.

Those old guys didn't get the huge salaries you see today. They barely got enough to live on during the season, and in the off-season had other jobs.

Those were my thoughts as well. No reason to repaint the whole dial just to add a few words in the middle. The award name would simply have been added like the name of a retailer.

Regardless, I wouldn't mess with it. It has been that way for a long time. If possible, I'd get the hour marker replaced and call it good.
