@ConElPueblo They heard your plea, and then did exactly the opposite:

Ah, taking a page out of my mums "How I Choose Christmas Presents for my Offspring" book I see.

I am used to seeing Omega produce an unwaveringly stream of watches I could not ever see myself buying, but this is a new low... There HAS to be a way to produce a modern diver with the same wonderful dimensions as the Seamaster 300 Pro of the nineties; a wearing experience not bettered since.

Love that its minus a date, HE valve and crown guards. Make a 40mm version please Omega!!

Yes, make the first cubed watch.

I am with you Troels, it is an irrelevance. I too crave a functional slim watch, which is maybe why have have owned more 1120 SMPs than I care to mention and wont touch anything fatter than ~15mm, which precludes an awful lot of Omega's output. See below, perhaps there is Danish logic behind this too, or at least residual Danish logic, it from Iceland. 1000m depth rated and only (from memory) about 14mm thick:

This is probably the time for me to mention that I have just bought a 20mm thick vintage dive watch... 🤦🤦

Ooooh, this could be a good upgrade from the Sinn UX I have, which would only survive down to something like 7,000... My biggest fear has been getting cement shoes from the mafia, getting dumped over the trench, and having my watch fail while I am on the bottom. So when the sea critters gnaw off my legs and my bloated body bobs back up to the surface, my son would wind up with a watch that needs to be sent in for servicing. I really want him to avoid that hassle, as it takes something like 7 months for Sinn to service and return the UXs.

I was thinking whether the blue would be visible at depth.
Given the pressures involved, probably not, as one’s eyes would be little jelly pancakes pressed hard against the back of the sockets!

Check the stories on Fb and Insta.

Anyone got an idea what this new model is?
It’s a Seamaster planet ocean

So next time you go saturation diving in the Marianas Trench, you will be covered if you are wearing this on your wrist 🙄
My first thought was "does that mean it'll go to the very bottom of the Challenger Deep?" .

Well, a quick check on Wiki says the deepest point is 11,33.76m... Nice try, Omega, nice try ... but still 35m to go.

Personally, I'm a huge fan of this arms race (it's more or less the same as the ultra-thin competition that sees records broken almost yearly by Piaget, JLC, and Bulgari), as it usually yields technologies and products that trickle into stuff available to the mainstream. Omega even openly states this in the mission page:

"OMEGA’s goal was to create a watch for a very specific task using technology that could be industrialised in the future...”

Perfectly awesome. Also love how Victor Vescovo wears what appears to be a pretty standard PO Chrono throughout the mission itself, photographed here after the record-breaking dive:

As much as I love their new technology... it would be nice for them to release something similarly looking that is less thick.

The watch is depth rated for 15,000m - it just went down on the submersible to 10,928m as part of the dive.

There isn't much "new technology" in this one though. The only thing that might qualify from what I've read is maybe the Liquidmetal bonding of the crystal, unless that was done by the Liquimetal people and not Omega...

Did get a good chuckle at this one though:

"surprisingly slim and light at less than 28mm"

Describing a watch this thick as "slim" is a stretch...

I'm in the minority but I'm smitten by this.
This is my grail watch now. I really want one.
Please god be under 10k.

I can start saving.

If you read the Omega literature, it says this:

"The chosen maximum pressure is equivalent to the depth of the Mariana Trench, but to be extra sure and to comply with dive watch standards, OMEGA insisted on adding a 25% safety margin, which meant the watches had to perform perfectly at an astonishing 1500 bar / 15,000 meters."

Note that dive watch standards require that the watch is tested at 25% above the depth rating of the watch, so although it was tested to 15,000m, it is not rated to 15,000m. If it were rated to 15,000m it would have to be tested to 15,000+25%, so 18,750m.

That one had me chuckling as well. My hunch is that this was a subtle jab at Rolex, whose Challenger Deep watch from 2012 was 28.5mm, and Omega was just asserting a little dominance here.

Good to know that the polyamide velcro strap is now DEEP SEA certified!

Interesting Points:

"the body of the bezel, casebody, caseback and crown of the Seamaster Planet Ocean Ultra Deep are machined cutoffs from the forged grade 5 titanium hull of the submersible Limiting Factor (DNV-GL certified) – certifying the origin, characteristics and quality of the material."

"Fully integrated into the titanium casebody, the lugs of the Seamaster Planet Ocean Ultra Deep Professional are left open to lower the risk of exceeding material limitations at full ocean depth, as both the watch and the strap can be subjected to high traction loads. They are called “Manta” lugs due to their distinctive look."

NO-DATE Planet Ocean dial looks awesome!
