Perfect amount of patina on this Omega 53 thin arrow all original radium dial, these were all re called to the mod to replace the radium with tritium in 1962 but a small amount maybe a couple of hundred escaped for various reasons, this particular one was found in 1973 by a raf mechanic in the running gear of an raf baggage loader and was then sat in a drawer and wound from time to time for 50 years before I got my hands on it 馃槉

The radiation blasts right through it sealed out not. There are a few threads already on here about it. Enjoy the watch but I definitely wouldn鈥檛 wear it all the time or sleep with it on.

Dr.Geiger might disagree with that...

While the risk from radium isn鈥檛 to be totally ignored, let鈥檚 not overstate things. You don鈥檛 see all ex soldiers and watchmakers dying from radiation poisoning or cancer so it clearly isn鈥檛 quite as big a deal as some believe. I speak as someone who has used strong radiation sources in a lab so I haven鈥檛 got my head in the sand, just a sense of perspective

Couldn鈥檛 agree more mate people just love to make a big deal out of it for some reason, I specifically liked a quote i read somewhere maybe on here, if my arm falls off from wearing a radium watch I鈥檒l wear it on the other one 馃槀馃憤

My understanding is that the greatest risk with radium is ingestion of particles, so as long as the case and crystal are intact you should be good to go
