Omega 3861 Movement hard to wind from fully unwound?

Has anyone with the Omega 3861movement noticed it is significantly harder to wind than other movements? I have noticed it is harder to wind from fully unwound than my other speedies and wondered if it is a characteristic of this movement or is there a potential problem?

When I got mine in 2019 I had the same problem (it was my first manual wind/Speedy), I tried an 1861 at the AD and that was easy peasy. It feels better know but still not a smooth as I recall from the 1861.

This has nothing to do with the movement - the tightness of the seal inside the crown to the case tube is 90% of what determines the feel of the winding. The amount of grease applied to the seal can make a difference even...

This is not true. All watches with this movement have been cursed. I have it on good authority that Rolex has hired a Voodoo guy who is sticking pins in the 3861 caliber…

They need a distraction from the 3235 debacle...

Hi,

I am very pleased by a what you call ˋdifficult compared to other’ winding 3861 on my goldie Moonshine Speedy,
knowing that the sealing feels tight enough to protect it against dust and humidity when wearing it day by day.

Mine is a breeze, don't pinch the crown, instead just use the side of your index finger along the back side.

My moonshine goldie winds pretty smooth. I think it’s the weight of that gold crown providing extra torque.😉.

It depends on the unit and time. My Snoopy is harder than a friend's 3861 moonwatch, but is softer now than it used to be.

I would think the diameter of the crown would contribute to the perceived resistance to winding. A smaller crown would seem to feel harder to wind. My Apollo 11 50th seems OK to wind, but I still have sufficient strength in my fingers to wind it. Perhaps in another 10 years I'll complain.

Please explain. A larger diameter crown has the effect of being a longer lever, which would give you more torque with less effort. Although the winding may be somewhat slower, it would require less effort. Would 1 or 2 mm make much difference? Don't know.

Well, the crown on a 166.024 is easier to wind than the crown on a 168.004, despite the movements being essentially identical. 1-2mm definitely can make a difference, assuming the knurling is still grippy, etc. (4204 I'm looking at you...)

Because the hardness is a subjective feeling, it’s not so silky as winding my Tresor but not “hard” either.

Are they still having issues with this calibre?

Mine feels fine. Just as good as one of my manual GS watches (the only other manual watch I own).

What is the diameter on the crown of the new 3861 range of watches?
I hav bougth this to help wind my 1863 SS Speedy. Since I have arthrities in the finger I use to wind. They come in different sizes, but I can totally see it leaving marks if your uncareful.
Winds like a charm. But I think the larges Bergeon makes is 5-7mm and I hear the new speedys has a sightly bigger crown than the 1863 movement speedmasters.

I have a new Speedmaster with the 3861 as well. I find it a little hard to wind as well but I don't have a lot to compare to. I do think it has slightly more resistance than the 8500 in my AT.
