Got my granddads watch from my father.
The watch is in very bad condition.
We want to restore it, but the dial is in very bad condition?
It is a 18k watch. 1955 (gor the papers from Omega)

Is it worth the restoration?

New glas, watch service, find a new dial, find a time correct band and gasp.
Or do we just clean the dail and keep this?
The problem is the letters are totally gone.

Good source for parts?

you will have to be patient but dials do show up. it d be good you keep that dial as it is and get another one in good condition. new glass and springbars and overall cleaning and service. polish is strongly unadviced as time patina it has developed would be lost. also you might want to replace the crown and keep that one along the dial. just for sentimental value i mean.

these folks in france are great with parts

If you're keeping it, maybe, that's up to you.

New glas, watch service,
Difficulty: Easy

find a new dial,
Difficulty: Hard

find a time correct band and gasp.
Or do we just clean the dail and keep this?
The problem is the letters are totally gone.

Why not start with a professional dial cleaning and see how it looks through a polished crystal? The pictures posted above don't make it easy to tell, but it's possible this might clean up nicely without resorting to refinishing the dial. I wouldn't sweat the loss of text if the rest of the dial cleans up nicely.

Once you know what the dial looks like after a cleaning, it might be easier to decide whether it's worth it to you to invest in a service.

This is entirely a personal decision based on sentimental value. For anyone else, it would probably not be worth restoring.

I want to restore is ... my dad to.
The only question is the dial
- restauration
- find another one (but need to be the same)
- cleaning but live without letters

You could find someone to repaint the dial. It was a pretty simple design. No special printing or logos.

Finding another one will be especially difficult as this particular reference only was produced in solid 18K gold. So even if you were to find a non-running parts watch with a decent dial, it is going to be quite expensive due to the gold value of the case. I would not recommend that you buy a similar looking dial from another Omega model, as not all dials fit all cases or movements. You need one from a Ref. 2710.

Trying to clean the dial is a gamble. In this case, not much of a gamble, as you could always fall back on a redial. You might want to try this option first.

Hope this helps,
