Does anyone know what base metal was used for the dial? Brass, or gold (can't really imagine that)? I would expect brass to oxidise and turn dark, maybe even black with time, so I wonder why the dial is covered in these "golden" dots?

What does the "stabilising" process involve?

I hope we get to see a LOT more photos of this watch (before and after). I think it has patina to die for.
The dial blanks are brass. The golden dots are fairly common to the satin blue dials used on the 1040 dials so I believe it has to do with whatever material/process is used to achieve that color.

Do you have any other reference images of that effect? Just curious.

Here are a few I've saved. I've seen others though, usually in eBay listings:

The third dial looks awful IMO because the black enamel has been washed off the markers, not to mention the sloppy repainting of the hands. The first two have their own appeal though, like the OP's watch.

@Searching - very nice watch you have there! Yes to keeping the dial and getting a conservationist to preserve the condition of it.

WatchGuy do excellent services/repairs, glad you went to them for your watch!

If you are able to get in contact with the admins, you may be able to place a 'Want To Buy' thread in the sub-forums for your parts and endlinks 馃榾

Thanks GuiltyBoomerang, i googled and searched almost one year to decide where i will send the watch for service and repairing. Wrote lots of emails with different company's and decided for Wachguy uk. It was the best email contact, good photo reports online and they have repaired lots of Seamasters like mine. And i m happy that i got a booking slot. They made a pretty cool documentation about every progress they made with my watch.

I will write to the admins about the missing end link for the want to buy thread 馃槈

Thanks for the photos. They are looking pretty cool. I like the first picture of the blue dial and it looks like as it would starting to get dark and golden like mine 馃槈

Getting to the OP's question about the 653 endlinks: When I was looking for a set more than 6 years ago I checked with several sources and material houses and was told they are "no longer available". I don't know if thats still the case, bt your best option would probably be to post a WTB ad on the forum and keeping an active search going on eBAY.

I will try to make an wanted to buy thread when i know how that works to get 200 posts 馃槈

Please leave it as is. you could never replace that much character and history. At the right time let your son know where it has been and what it has been thru and I am sure when ready he will appreciate it more.

The 200 post rule can be bypassed if you contact the admins and let them know your situation. They can choose to elevate your status so you can post there.

What kind of budget are you working with? There's a complete bracelet currently at $165 with 2 days to go.

Here are a vew pictures of the service from Watchguy uk. Not much needed, a bit paint for the hands, a new main spring and some new gaskets. Also changed the central second hand to an original one.

Scratches polished out of the crystal

New paint

Yes there are different white on the hands but i like it with the new refreshed colors. All i regret a bit is, that between 2 and 4 o clock the dial lost a vew of the fine white line's.

Hope you enjoy the picture's of my Dad's old Seamaster and the first service of the watch in about 40 years 馃槈

No regrets there, the watch is a fine piece and if anything, the lines are commensurate with the age. Wear it in good health 馃榾

Hey @ all, my Dad's Seamaster came back home today from Watchguy UK. I m happy to have it back. Everything is working as it should. Just put the bracelet 1162/172 back on. I dont like this barcelet. Watchguy also have had no idea where to get the one missing end link 653 馃檨 and no answer from admins because of the wtb thread.I m thinking to buy a broun lether band. Maybe it will looking better. Please tell me, if you know some good looking lether bands what would match to my Seamaster.

Enjoy the picture 馃榾
