Hi all -

Looking at a watch and wondering what everyone thinks of the condition of this movement. The watch allegedly runs well, but I see some damage and trying to understand how big a deal it is/if a service would take care of it. I don’t have much experience in this area.

Rust! At the very least, it needs recondition, mainspring, deal with the visible rust, replace rusted parts if needed, find out where it is leaking and deal with that. Depending on where you live and what all is necessary, you could be looking at $1,000.00. Hopefully less. Add cost of service to purchase price, and decide whether you love it enough.

I’m no expert, but isn’t that regulator way out from the “normal” position? Might be why it is “running well” with an obviously unserviced and rusty movement - because the seller “overregulated” it to make it look like it is keeping time. But again, I’m no expert with how the regulator on this specific movement works. Just looks off to me.

I see grease. Lots of grease. Which probably keeps the rust at bay. As @DON noted this attracts dirt, which causes parts to wear faster.

Movement looks like a Landeron 51 variation. Probably the most common chronograph movement. Nothing special.

The case and dial are all that matters here.

Would need to remove the grease and check. Can’t tell 100% based off the images
