Omega 168.025

Hi everyone,

I came across this watch. It is a ‘60s, ref 168.025. Not so common ref for a Constellation.
It is a 34mm, solid gold case.
Dial looks legit and so does everything else.
Quick set not working so it needs a full service and more likely new setting spring lever. Don't have the tool 105 to pop it open and inspect the movement...so there is a degree of risk.

I am trying to decide what is a fair price based on what I need to spend on it.
Any input welcomed!
Thanks a lot

At first glance, I have suspicions about some of the printing, for example the word certified and some of the minute tick markers looking hand-done and inconsistent. I could very well be wrong, just my two cents.

Thanks for the reply.
Dial looked ok to me but Im not an expert. Photos are not very clear. Maybe this one is a bit better.

I think the dial is okay. The printing looks a bit heavier than what we're used to seeing on earlier Constellations, but I believe that is okay.

Value is difficult to say anything general about. It is not a particularly sought after Constellation, but solid gold Omegas - and Constellations moreso - are always interesting. What is the asking price? What country are you in?

Dial has vertical brushing, it is correct. The “M’s” on this reference are very wide. My example:

Price is reasonable, if only you could be sure what parts you need at service. For that reason, I’d try to get it a little cheaper, since you are one who will need to take the risk.

Good luck with purchase,

Thanks Gatorcpa,

This is exactly my assessment, too. I had the watch in hand and couldn't find anything fishy.
It does seem to be all legit.

I would be a lot more comfortable a bit lower.
I need a buckle and a nice strap, plus the service. Another aprox 400 to go into these, I am estimating

You'll need to replace the crown as well, no? Are those easy to find?

The crown is Omega and I think its the correct one for this ref. Am I, right?

Omega crowns are for sale quite a lot on ebay but I just need to establish if the watch has the right one or not.

My recollection is that the crowns on these will only fit this model due to the unusual nature of the case.

If it is Omega signed, there is a pretty good chance it is correct.

OK, that's good. The original photo made the crown look like it was rather taller and thinner than I expected.

There is a seller in Saudi that has some NOS straps from that era:

He's listed as currently away until the end of the week, but when he comes back, it might be worth your time to take a look. Price was $99 for the strap with free shipping. HIs seller ID is "swiss1watches1". If you search now you won't see any listings.

Thanks a lot for the tip. I shall be looking for the listing to appear.

@gatorcpa
Thanks for the info. You had/have a watch with this ref, right? I think I saw a photo posted by you when I searched the forum. Was it solid gold, too?

Hi everyone,

I did get the watch eventually. Paid xxxx usd in the end, I think its a fair price. Need to service it now.

Thanks everyone for the input.
I had a steel Connie pie pan before....I feel this gold one has more presence.
The watch originates from Chevron oil company. Gifted for 30yrs in the company to an employee in 1970.

Hi, yes, it has the engraving. It is done with style and it doesn't bother me.

Few people know......big gas and oil companies had a catalogue of watches for retiring employees to pick their “thank you” gift when upon retirement!

I'm a fan of these too. Let's see it. The first Omega I ever got my hands on commemorated someone's twenty years of service at a Japanese credit union.

I later got an Eterna-Matic 1000 with a Birks signature on the dial and a tribute to a retiree from the Canada Life Assurance Company on the back, indicating such extreme Canadian-ness that you can practically hear the watch apologize.

Im a bit reluctant to “disclose” the name of the original owner by posting a photo.
I wanna protect their privacy.....maybe the family didn't wanna sell it but they had to....

Let me see how I can blur the name!

@krogerfoot thanks for sharing. I also like the engravings and story behind it. The association with Chevron oil is kind of cool.
I like your Birks Eterna very much. I have an Eterna, too.
I am always looking for dealer stamps dials.
