Omega 14902 pie pan dials?

Hallo friends,
I searched for Constellations 14902/3 with pie pan dials.
(I did not find a thread answering my question. And I have not seen this on an allmost identical 168.005/6)

I came across two different dial versions
  • version 1 with full text ..'officially certified' and an index marker at '3'.
  • version 2 without the text ..'officially...' and without the short index marker at '3'.
(see pictures)

=> Are both versions valid and original, what is earlier or why these different dials?
Konrad

Firstly, the examples you show all look like deluxe dials.

The ‘missing text’ dials were the tail end of Omega’s dial experiment.
I believe both types are valid.

No-one knows why Omega allowed the production of dials without the 3-index ( it’s a subject that @hoipolloi finds particularly vexatious)
It is likely down to different dial manufacturers - and continued into the 168.005 references.

Given general timescale of other references with missing text dials, sense would dictate the missing text dials are earlier than the full text dials - but that is just an assumption.

You are absolutely right. The 14393's are missing text dials and didn't have 3 o'clock index, either.
But then comes the late 168.005 with serial number 26 million and up. We see dials without 3 o'clock index again.

As a collector, I find the dial unbalanced when it doesn't have 3 o'clock index and I don't collect them.

Thanks, now I have an eye on these details, I hadn't before.
My 14392/3 and 14398 have 'reduced text dials' wether pie pan or domed, gold or silver, my 168.005/6 have not.

IIRC The missing text dials range primarily on some references released from circa 1958/59 to 1962 but less commonly they also bled into the early 168.004, 167.005 & 168.005 references.

My OCD is twinging with the decimal point in the 5 digit PIC codes. The MAPICs codes are of the form XXX.XXX but the 5 digit ones are all one number. Stop it, stop it now! 😀

@padders: done, Konrad
But what is an OCD? Do I have it also?
Something of disorder?

And if Omega would have used MAPICS for their product identification system, our historical research would be much easier today.
