Omega 105.012 Speedmaster: Buying Advice & Originality

Finally, I wonder what would be the value of this watch considering we now have a clear picture of it. It is obviously missing original bezel, hands, pushers, crown and bracelet. But what’s there is a seriously presentable watch in my eyes, and for less than the price of a 57 trilogy remake. I am definitely leaning into making an offer after seeing it, but would definitely welcome insight as well as feelings on what I should be offering.
I feel like you are probably on your own with respect to your offer, this is a watch that apparently has more value to a you than to a vintage collector.

Know it's hard to walk away from something which looks good but has pretty much everything replaced, where the actual value lies. If you're going to keep it forever, then make an offer. If you're remotely thinking about perhaps selling it in the future to buy another, better one respectfully pass on this one.

I was looking for an pre-moom Speedmaster for a while, have a Straight Writing-69, but wanted some special. Know the price would be higher and each one I came across was pricey but always had issues with the dial, pushers, etc., which made me pass on them. Then one of the members was selling a Ck2998-5 from his collection because he was looking at another one.

If I would've bought one of the others to have a pre-moom one instead of waiting for the perfect one, would have spent most of the money on something I didn't really want for a beautiful watch which I will never sell.

The question to ask yourself is "if I buy this watch, and in a few weeks or a couple of months another one comes up which has all original parts and similar dial quality for a little more than what you offer is, can you buy it and then try and sell this one." if the answer is no, don't purchase this one. It's tough, but wait for the right one to come along.

Attached a couple of pics of my two vintage Speedmasters.

The main problem for me is that it seems like the dial is the most compelling part to you, and I'm not even 100% sure that it's not relumed. How does it glow under black light? Because if it is relumed, I would rather have a Horoluma relume with all original parts otherwise, but I'm biased.

It's his Money. He knows now, what he is buying. It's not on us to tell him otherwise. I've been there as well; bought Watches , that were not correct in the Hope, to find the desired parts later ( which I did ) ... Anyway, we don't even know, what price was offered. Maybe Pounds 4000 , which would be fine for this serviced Movement Speedy. So , good luck to you and wear it in good Health.

I want to write a big thank you to everyone who joined in on this discussion - it was a great opportunity to meet the members of the this board and I learned a lot too. It was clear to me that this watch was the right one for me since I’m not looking for total purity, but a balance between purity, aesthetics and wearability. This one ticked all my boxes! I can disclose that I was able to negotiate around £4500, which to me is an absolute bargain, since my alternative for the aesthetics I wanted was the 57 trilogy, which doesn’t have the 321 movement and costs a lot more. I plan to put this one on a caramel coloured leather nato that compliments the dial tritium and to put on an aftermarket charcoal grey DON bezel and try to find some modern fat neck service pushers and possibly a modern flat foot service crown. If anybody can point me in the direction of those parts that would be great, but I’m not in a rush. For now I’m going to ride around the wheat fields of Furano wearing this watch as it is!

Enjoy in good health! But as @Spacefruit mentioned, finding and re-fitting fat neck pushers will be quite the challenge. And what do you mean by modern service flat-foot crown? As far as I know, service crowns are not flat foot (nor 24-tooth), which is part of the reason why they are undesirable. (Same with service pushers not being fat neck I believe).

Looks great, @jolyon. All said and done, you've got a 105.012 moon watch that's been serviced and will run for years for less than a new Speedy.

Had to look up where was Furano. Beautiful spot.

Thank you!! I was thinking about potentially the crown that Omega made for the recent 321 pieces - I’m not sure if it’s the same as the one that goes in the 105.012 and if so, how I would even get one!
For the pushers, what are your thoughts on 086ST0022 service pushers? Would they look decent on a 105.012?

If you enjoy wearing it now, I don’t see a need to fuss over if, when, or how you might find period correct parts to make it more authentically vintage. Enjoy it as it is and if your mood changes in the future address it then.

Thank you! It is definitely going to be one I wear a lot, and it’s going to get some natural patina!
Furano is lovely, but also worth checking out Biei and the area around Daisetsusan National park, it’s amazing for riding!

In the end I got it fairly close to this price! I’m really happy because it’s similar to the cost of a modern Speedmaster so it really feels like a lot of watch for the money

I missed this question about the lume before. When I used a uv lamp on the dial, the indexes briefly glowed green and then after a couple of seconds they went dim. My understanding is that this is the way the original tritium should behave. Do you think this indicates the original tritium is present?
