Does anyone have an idea of what this might be? It's a watch I inherited from my grandfather, not running.

Go to www.mybulova.com and search. I would start in the 30's. Guess it could be late '20's? Good luck I hope you get it serviced and wear it for years to come.

To properly identify your watch a clear photo of the movement is necessary, such as the photo here. These old Bulovas cases can be opened using your thumbnail or knife blade. From the information that appears on the movement the year of production can be determined. There is a great vintage Bulova enthusiast website, mybulova.com. The site provides movement date code information. Once the year of production has been determined, you can search the site's photo gallery for that year to find the name of the model.

Post a clear photo of the movement inside the watch and we can go from there. Cheers!

Thanks all. Those were bad photos. I've got a steadier hand today. The watch has a hinged cover, and some kind of plastic covering over the movement. It turns out to be a 1929 President Madison. Not a bad find. Grandpa was kind of a collector of all sorts of things, including a ham radio outfit with vacuum tubes!

Has anyone ever seen one of the 'woven mesh' Bulova bracelets for sale? I'm thinking this might not be an easy thing to find.

IMO the case is so charismatic that a brown or black leather strap would suffice. Satin finish black gator too. Textures could pick up on the case. I’d have a watchmaker do a movement only service. This piece just oozes personality. I think a metal bracelet would not frame it well.
