There were 700-ish Apollo 11's allocated to the US, those who put a deposit (usually 100%) got a watch. It was orderly and run by Omega USA. This time it seems a bit ad hoc and not as organized. Hope they haven't screwed it up.

The Apollo 11 deposits in the US were very well handled by Omega corp. This one seems quite random with some OBs asking for $3K, some $5K. Also, I was told by my OB that Omega corporate is going to do the allocation per spending history. When asked in that case why accept deposits, they had no answer. Deposits don't seem like a guarantee. Their suggestion was "let's just wait and see". OBs just don't know how the allocation will be handled.

My understanding of the additional spending history consideration was with respect to delivery timeline. As in, if you have a deposit and are VIP, you get the watch earlier, but if you have a deposit down with no spend you'll get it...eventually.

Omega can do these special projects well, like the Apollo 11 of last year. Orderly info given out, watches delivered on time, no real dramas. Then we have cockups like the Seamaster 1948 (delivery issues) and the two #SpeedyTuesdays which were real dogs breakfasts in the way orders were taken. I hope the bad Omega isn't running this one.

This thread has become a dramatic soap opera about people debating “deposits”. Jeez. I read it all and now I want my time back.

More frenzy than the Rolex releases.

Imagine if it turns out to be a disappointment. All these frantic posts for nothing.

But it added some excitement and made the time go faster in these Covid times.

Does Jesus need a deposit to assure getting one?

I guess Omega is watching this thread intensively: as soon as we have more than 100 pages, the watch will be released...

It’s a US thing, NASA and Snoopy. Expect them to release once all of the US is awake..... nearly 7:00 in California. ( East Coasters are still dirty about the ST1 being released and sold out while they were asleep )
serves them right.

No, but I did hear he automatically gets 12 allocations for him and his buddies.
