Not An Omega, But A Genta Design

Unfortunately not the most robust of movement designs and the loss the lawsuit to Buren close enough to the advent of the quartz watch kind of took the wind out of the brand.

Here's my 69 movement Polerouter with a Buren Super Slender and the Hamilton version of the Buren.

I have one bumper and one microrotor date Polerouter similar to Dennis's:

While they look like very similar watches from photographs, I find the earlier watch to be a more substantial and three dimensional design. The microrotor is a bit thinner, but by the late 1950's, the thinner, the better.

Take care,

Ray, can we have a few more pics of the Buren? It's not a watch one sees every day to say the least!

I kinda want one with a black dial but I'll think about it...

Kyle, do you think that one is original or refinished? There is a break in the crosshair at AUTOMATIC. Is that normal. I am also watching that one.😁

It's probably a redial, but I could be wrong.
Thanks Dennis. That's what I thought too. I guess that should be no break in the crosshair.

Not sure, but Lou's example also has the break:

I think it may depend on the reference number. That's why I didn't answer the earlier post. Don't know the reference of either watch.

Most UG's have two numbers somewhere on the case back. First one is the case reference and second one is the actual serial number.

UG's generally don't have serial numbers on the movements. Polerouter chronometers are an exception:

Hope this helps,

I suck at pics. Hopefully this will do Lou.

Indeed it does. That is a new one to me - and I've never seen the old Buren logo before, only the modern one which I now realize is an abstraction of this one. Thanks!

I think the break in the bottom cross hair is typically on of the hallmarks of a redial, though the rule may not be absolute.

Not at all sure that I agree, J (except the part about the rule not being absolute)

For example, do you think the watch below is a redial?

Did you know the crystals on these were signed just like Omegas.

The dial looks otherwise crisp to me, lume appears authentic and yet the crosshair is interrupted.

And what do we do with the Polerouter below? A mix of interruption for the company logo in the top half of the dial and the overlap in the lower half.

I realize my watch in this thread has a crosshair break, so perhaps I'm biased, but I'd say the issue requires some more investigation before a definitive statement can be ventured.

Maybe I needed to add a stronger qualification - a break in the cross hair should be cause for further investigation 😉.

I didn't know about the signed crystal! Check it out!

Not nearly as pronounced as the Omega symbol, but it's there.

The Polerouter Date I show above had the signed crystal, too. Didn't find out about it until it was serviced and the crystal replaced. The watchmaker sent back the cracked original. Vintage Eternas also have logos on the crystals.

Have a Happy New Year everyone! Although for our friends down under, 2013 has already started.

Ah cool, is it a shield?
