We don't have vicious wasps here in California, but we do get them. When I was a young adult, I pointed out a nest hanging from under my parent's eves and asked my dad if he had any wasp spray.

He proceeded to fill a huge glass syringe from a can of diesel oil in the garage and said "soak them with this". Sure enough, one-by-one, dead wasps dropped from the nest. No fire needed.
No fire? where's the fun in that?

German wasps are so prevalent now in NZ they are considered one of the primary threats to NZ rainforests with there ability to break a very important ecosystem that supports and nurtures the trees themselves.
I have been in some forests where all you can hear and see are these little black and yellow bastards, millions would be a large underestimate of the amount with in a few hundred meters with absolutely huge nests and large supplies of food and no known effective predator to mediate their numbers sufficiently to minimize the ecological damage they incur.

Soapy water in a spray bottle for wasps. Sticks to their wings so they fall to the ground and the soap plugs their airholes. Suffocate. Earth friendly and frankly, kinda fun.

I'd still rather burn the bastards!

🤞 as you say Jim.
Sounds like Redland Bay has been without power for a while.
Hopefully it just becomes a good "I was there" memory for your Grand Daughter.

Wind has a strange sound to it right now in Brisbane. Almost like a constant jet overhead.
Rain is coming down but not getting that usual sound on the tin roof. Can hear the gutters overflowing though.

There's going to be lots of different experiences with this affecting the Sunny Coast right down past the Gold Coast and into NSW.
These things can be hugely different door to door, street to street. Nevermind covering all of the most populated regions of South East Queensland.

I think this is where they got the idea for the Aliens franchise.

One of those bastard wasps flew into the side of my helmet one day when I was cruising along Kingsford Smith Drive in Brissy on my Honda 4.
Lucky traffic was light as I squealed like a five year old girl and frantically used both hands to get my helmet off while steering the bike with violent body motions as it slowed down. Got the helmet off and threw it, regained control of the bike and pulled over. Walked back to get my now scratched to shit almost brand new Bell open face. Couple of drivers who had slowed down behind me went past, one was laughing his head off.
