Snake slithers out of spice shelves at Sydney supermarket

A grocery run turned into a snake rescue for an Australian woman when she was greeted by a python poking out from a supermarket shelf.

Helaina Alati, 25, was at a Sydney store on Monday when the 3m non-venomous snake slithered out.

The Woolworths supermarket lies on the edge of a large expanse of bushland on the city's north- west outskirts.

But encountering a snake in the spice aisle is not what Ms Alati expected.

Fortunately for both parties, Ms Alati is a wildlife rescuer and familiar with snakes.

"I just turned my head and he was about 20cm from my face, just looking straight at me," she told the BBC.

She did a double-take but remained calm. No one else was around.

Recognising it instantly as a diamond python, Ms Alati knew it wasn't venomous as it protruded and flicked its tongue.

"He was looking straight at me the whole time, almost like he was saying: 'Can you take me outside please?'" she said.

Australia really is just crazy - like some king of Jurassic park frozen in time. Being based in the UK I would just freak out if I came across ....a trading / open Woolworths.... you just can’t make that sh-t up ;0)

Funny thing is she would have just taken it outside and let it go like it wanted 👍

She did, but first she had to run home and get her "snake bag" so the snake could be captured IAW snake rules.

Who the F keeps a snake bag at home?
(Well.........prolly @STANDY 😁).

Bought a Datsun 200B off a retired disabled Vietnam veteran for $1200 in 10/10 condition in 1998. Drove it for the years worth of rego and sold it to a Datsun car club for $5000 and a replacement car. Had them beg for it after seeing it in a car park and finally said $5k and a car.
Car was a Datsun 1200 Ute 😉
Almost an upgrade

Sure is.

I was feeding a family in our front yard about an hour ago. I make small pellets of budget beef mince (good fat content) and mix it with insectivore mix so that it's much like their natural forage. Not enough to make them reliant on us, but enough for a treat and it keeps them in the area.

Which is a good thing, it keeps the friggin Indian Mynas away!

PS: That guy needs more cable ties on his helmet!

A couple of reasons not to go swimming in northern creeks and rivers.
Notice in the first pic the croc appears to have lost one of his front legs probably to a bigger buddy when he was smaller.
