When are Australians finally going to admit that the Platypus is a hoax?

    True story.
I was headed to the local video game parlor when I ran across an acquaintance who had run into a flooded sinkhole in a nearby parking lot.
He is a disabled veteran and unable to do anything to get the car unstuck.
It being more than one person could do to push the car out I went on to the parlor and looked around to find someone who could help.
I spotted a guy I knew from high school and he offered to help.
This guy was the second largest of two pituitary gland giants I'd met at school. Around 7' 2" and about 450 pounds of solid muscle. The other was 7' 9", in the 7th grade that guy had been 6' 10".
Anyway it was raining hard by the time we got to the car.
Before I even put a hand on the car the giant said stand aside I've got this and lifted the rear of the car about two feet or more and pushed it out of the sinkhole in one smooth motion, then simply walked away.
The driver and his wife were in shock. He said he almost had a heart attack because he thought they were being attacked by a Big Foot.
For some unknown reason Giantism is more common here than anywhere I've heard of.

Habitat extends worldwide. Very, very dangerous when provoked. And mine is the best thing that ever happened to me. :D

Here is a fish that is native to the region, not specifically an Aussie fish but one you might encounter offshore. d50c9bd0-3bee-11ea-8dfc-ecc1edbfa465.jpg

They leap from the water at a high velocity and have fatally injured a few people over the years.

Awhile back while watching an old 60's spy film I saw one of these among a collection of ceremonial weapons used by brainwashed zombie like assassins in Haiti.
The entire mummified fish was strapped to a long haft like a pickaxe.

The Thorny Devil is an impressive lizard, but the image I posted is the Alligator Snapping Turtle native to the USA. I've seen one as big as a car muffler. The neck can extend quite a way. The bite can take a hand off at the wrist.
The one I saw was probably far older than the one in the picture. The spikes on the edges of its shell were near as long as my fingers and even its tail had long sharp spikes.
It was a misty morning and I thought I saw a muffler that had fallen off a car. I got out to drag it to the side of the road and that long neck shot out and his beak snapped a fraction of an inch from my hand.
I took a small sturdy branch and tried to get him to lock down on it so I could drag him and he snapped through wood thicker than my finger clean as pruning shears.
A few minutes later the owner of this beast came up and grabbed it by the tail. She said it had been living in her root cellar for a year and had dug its way out again to go walkabout.
Its digging claws are also very impressive.
    PS
Just found out these turtles can grow to 176 pounds with many over 100 pounds. A 144 pound specimen was caught recently. They say its head was the size of a basketball.
The larger specimens are from 50 to 80 years old. They are survivors of massive market hunting for their meat back in the 1960's.

We also have a fresh water fish called the Alligator Gar.
I've heard of these biting a large dog in half.

Spanish Macs are great eating - grilled when fresh, yum! Never thought of them as lethal although they do have a formidable set of teeth. Not nearly as dangerous to handle as bluefish though.

Yes, nothing scarier than a Datsun 120Y on bald retreads.. Been there, done that and survived. They were actually a great car, or should I say, GoCart.

Agree. I used to teach driving in the 120Y with Ajax while at Uni in the early 70s, bald retreads and all. :D

Bought a Datsun 200B off a retired disabled Vietnam veteran for $1200 in 10/10 condition in 1998. Drove it for the years worth of rego and sold it to a Datsun car club for $5000 and a replacement car. Had them beg for it after seeing it in a car park and finally said $5k and a car.
    Car was a Datsun 1200 Ute ;)
