Here's something friendlier than you average Redback - a couple of hermit crabs I spotted yesterday.

Oz is big, bigger than most people realise.
    Comparison map below.
Not only venomous critters but very prone to bush fires.

The bushfires are killing everything in their path, not just humans

Living in Northern Australia where reducing burns are a yearly pursuit by all, its never an issue up here. Being summer nearly 9 months of the year and wet for three months (where everything grows in fast forward) it’s the way our early custodians learnt the importance of regular burning. The science of our Unique flora needs fires for regeneration.
It will take a 100 years for the fauna to recover from this tragedy. (Hopefully the bags of supplies we sent for the Koalas and such in November are being well used)

Importantly every town needs a paid fire service, not full staffing like in the city but at least a small component (at least a fire chief). If I have to pay a few $$ more in Tax I am happy with that
The volunteer guys are all national treasures and I take my hat of to all of them.

If those are in Australia then they must be venomous or flammable or something...

they can’t be simply hermit crabs, its breaking some sort of Aussie rule.

or perhaps getting crabs in Australia is the safe thing to do.

Feel for our Australian members. Here in Montana only big cities have a paid fire department and in rural areas all volunteer fire departments even ambulances are volunteers but air ambulance helicopter you pay big time if you need one. A few years ago we had a bad fire season you smelled smoke all summer and a few times could see the smoke in the mountains. Maybe not as bad as Australia. I hope they get the fires under control in Australia. When just out of high school I did the CCC’s were we were trained to fight forest fires I remember when we fought two back to back get done with one and off to another one using mcclouds shovels and brush hooks double bits pulaski and no max clothing and hard hats and goggles and a wet bandana around your mouth to breathe out of and a back pack water sprayer we called a piss pump and if you were lucky a chain saw all hand tools a tough job for 500 bucks a month with a 150 bucks taken out for room and board was in the 1970’s but still not a lot of money. Was one of the hardest jobs I ever did. Now to do it totally free my hats off to volunteer fire fighters. If your near a air drop of fire retardant from aircraft you lay flat on the ground so if it hits you you don’t get hurt it knocked out the windshield of a fire truck so it could really hurt you.

That does not appear to be a wasp IMHO. So no real defense for the insect. Unfair

Its defence is a stinger which paralyses its prey, and its ability to fly, and the proof is it won the battle with this huntsman spider. The photo is of the paralysed huntsman being dragged along a paver by the wasp.
