Hi everyone, I have a cal 552 movement, in a frontloader 14765 61 sc case. I've had this for a couple of years, always assumed it was a redial with changed hands. As for the price, well, it was worth picking up even if everything else (which I suspect) is totally wrong. Most likely a franken watch. However on the .0001% chance this is a holy grail watch, I respectfully would like to ask for the forums expertise on this watch. I believe it is a redial, possibly from a constallation due to indices and hands. The crystal does have the Omega logo, and both the movement and case seem to match up. Serial number starts with 18 which is likely a 61 (roughly). There is oily sheen patina on the dial which I was unable to photograph which is very similar to the one found here: https://omegaforums.net/attachments/connieoil-jpg.149359/ Unfortunately, I am unable to open the frontloader case, so the case and movement picture are quick cell shots from a while ago, bad focus, and unfortunately, no serial on the movement as the pictures did not come out.. Although I have seen them and they do match up. My apologies in advance as I do not want to waste anyone's time. Any advice on what the dial, hands and crown are would be very much appreciated, as if I do sell this watch, I would not want to mislead anyone. Thanks in advance.
I believe that is a 552 movement? - A bit hard to read This thread may be a bit helpful https://omegaforums.net/threads/omega-seamaster-cal-552-1960.670/ Hard for me to comment on the dial, but my guess is that the movement is legit, but I have suspicions about the dial (any black dial that looks too good usually is)--- but I might be wrong about the dial.
It's probably a old white or starburst dial painted black What is the number inside the case ( Google that number as it is the model ) Bingo this looks like the case
Hi Standy, the number inside the case is 14765 61 sc. I'm pretty confident the case, crystal and movement are legit. Thanks for the response.
definitely looks better than this one https://www.ebay.com/itm/Rolex-6082...062114?hash=item441250cfe2:g:gxAAAOSwnQ9ZyewFPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network (apologies for the none omega content)
There's a nice little black dial on FS here, https://omegaforums.net/threads/1950-omega-2639-13-black-dial.69203/ - if your looking for one.
Welcome to the forum Winton, Glad you took my advice and asked here. I can only echo the previous reply, if it's a redial it's a damn good one.
Every good looking black dial is not a redial! Well, assuming in the first place it probably is is still a good idea...
Thanks for your help everyone, it is very much appreciated. I always had a thought that this could be real, simply because I couldn't find anything wrong with it, but am aware how rare a black dial with crosshairs is. I suspect that this watch was never used much, and due to the monocoque case, rarely opened, if ever. Does anyone have any idea what kind of hands these are? I also found the indices different than most seamasters, could there be a correlation?
If you do a search on Google Images on the ref. no. you'll find an identical Seamaster sold on WUS some time ago - but with a silver dial. When you're doing the search, have a look at the hands of all other examples of the ref - yours is the only with those hands. Could be a special order, but I highly doubt that. The swapped hands are odd, though. Why change them in the first place?
I think the hands are correct. I've had these on same model at least two times in my collection. But of course they may been replacements too.....
