Non watch culture/countries

From other threads I find it seems those living in a country with a strong watch culture assume the worlds like that.
I could be wrong I assume the USA, UK, Singapore, Japan, Switzerland etc have a strong watch culture?
Here in Australia there’s not much of one, brands like AP seem to be non existent, Rolex on wrists are a rarity. People in Australia aren’t big on showing off wealth so maybe the ol tall poppy syndrome has something to do with it.
With iPhone culture people have stop wearing watches in general.

So is does you’re country/area also lack a decent watch culture?

I live in a very rural part of California, and get excited on the rare occasion I see a descent Seiko. We have a few antique shops where I hunt for old Bulovas and similar watches. The pawn shop has two-tone 80s datejusts that nobody buys.

Yes I think here in Oz there’s a big divide between city and rural, you won’t find luxury watches in stores in rural areas, even 2nd hand. More watches on wrists in capital cities then elsewhere.

Hey! Stop pickin' on me.

I've only got two Rolexes but never wear them as I find it too difficult to choose between the two.

I have to settle on my blingiest watch, a $145 Russian tool watch.

And as for high end watch culture in Oz, go to any Time and Tide event and your eyes will pop seeing some of the watches there.

Where is Oz, other than somewhere over the rainbow?

Australia...... Australian.......Aussie.......Ozzie..........Oz.

Get a bunch of Australians pissed anywhere and some dickhead will usually start with the:

"Ozzie Ozzie Ozzie! Oi Oi Oi!" and repeat, until it's time for somebody to buy a round.

I don't think the US has a strong watch culture.

The Apple Watch has perhaps changed that... and that's not including the Fitbit.

Totally agree. I can go weeks without seeing a decent watch in the wild. That's not to say there aren't passionate collectors, but it's not a big part of the culture.

I’d never heard of Time and Tide til I just googled after you mentioned them. Where do they have events?
