Through the years I have collected some great reads out there to soak up time.... ANy of you have some non watch recommendations?

This is a great blog written by a chemist taking a hilarious look at the chemicals that scare the crap out of him, along with speculation as to how and why they where discovered.... Seriously great time waster.

:edit:
Lets keep this web based as some of us cannot go out and get books right now.

I’m currently halfway through Stephen King’s The Institute, gripping stuff. Really enjoyed The Outsider as well; shame its TV miniseries was drawn-out and vastly inferior.

I just read the Institute, I enjoyed it.

I've also appreciated the Scot Harvath series of books by Brad Thor and all of the Mitch Rapp books by Vince Flynn.

Amazon is offering two free months of Kindle Unlimited right now. Don’t have to have a kindle, any device with the kindle app works.

just make sure to turn off auto renew or it’s $10 a month after. You can cancel the renewal immediately and still get the 2 months.

If you have a local library card, you can access their digital book library through an app like Libby. The best part is that it's free.

Edited to include the link for the Libby app.

In these isolated times I can recommend the diary of Anne Frank.

I think that we need also some "brain refreshing stuff" for the kids, who have to stay at home these days. 🙁

Not web-based, but I can recommend a 1,000 piece puzzle as an option for a 5 and a 13 year old. Works fine since Monday.

Here’s my suggestion.

OF is a global virtual (in some cases physical) community that largely exists thanks to a barely noticed piece of tech that spans the globe. As the world goes into COVID-19 lock-down this essential tech is what holds us together, allows us to stay informed and entertained, but where did it come from? The answer can be found in:

Jeff Hecht’s “City of Light: The Story of Fiber Optics”

reading about the Spanish Flu and any pre-1900 wars is shocking. Those past war amazing amount of soldiers were ferried around the world to fight in shitty wars. 100,000’s of soldiers in horrid conditions. Tens of thousands killed or wounded in single days of fighting for a couple hundred yards or miles of land. Truly ghastly, nothing glorious.

FYI tor.com has Scalzi’s “Red Shirts” available for free right now.
It’s a great story of what might happen if the red shirts on Star Trek begin to wonder if they are fodder in a fictional universe.

I only use the internet for things that don't require reading ability
