Nomos, Omega or Omega, please help me decide

So, I was at my AD shortly after Baselworld to get on the list for the new Batman. Since I have to wait a few generations for that one I tried on the Nomos Zürich Weltzeit - and fell completely in love! Such a beautiful, special and comfortable watch. Even my wife urged me to buy it.

Right now I have a Speedmaster, a Carrera and a Black Bay Red. So that Nomos would be the perfect addition to my collection. I am lacking a more dressier watch.

But to be perfectly honest, as nice as it is, it just does somehow not feel like that amount of money. I tried on every other (and cheaper) Nomos but didn‘t really like any of them.

So the new Aqua Terra caught my attention. Man does that one look and feel like a special and very luxury watch! Yet it is just not what I am looking for and would also only be an alternative, no addition to my other watches. Furthermore, despite not beeing bigger than a Speedy or Black Bay, it looked huge on my 7“ wrist. So I tried the 38,5 in blue but that looked like a (quote of my wife) „womens watch“ on me.

Another contenter, I have in the back of my head for years now is the old SMPc 212.30.41.20.01.003 in black. But when I bought my Black Bay I actively decided against that one. So will it always be a second choice?

What would you do? Choose which one? Or even an alternative?

I am looking forward to your ideas and oppinions!

I would personally take the Nomos over the two Omegas. My wife and I both own a Nomos already, and I have a friend who is going to sell me the exact Nomos you are looking at getting...in a few months. I'm not typically a fan of world timers, but this one is beautiful.

I'm servicing a Nomos Club at the moment, and it's a well built watch - the finishing is excellent for the price point, and the performance after service is excellent - I didn't have to do a lot to get it run very well.

On top of that the company is very good to work with from a watchmaker perspective. I was able to source parts and technical information from them without any drama.

Cheers, Al

Which ones do you have Al?

I have a Tangente, and my wife has a Tetra.

Thank your for your suggestion. The Tetra was, by the way, my 2nd favorite Nomos when I tried them on.

Also a beautiful watch but the blue spot is already taken by my Carrera. The white one would be more suitable.

I have a special kind of love for the SMPc, but the Nomos does look very appealing. It's very minimalistic, but there's just something special about it.

I just cant get inspired by the Nomos style. I don't know what it is, but they just don't hit home with me. I tried one on in NYC a few years ago, and just wasn't inspired...

I like the white better than the blue.

Different strokes I guess.

I like the minimalist style, and I really think seeing them in person is a must as photos don't tend to do them justice. I didn't have a lot of love for the Club models, but this one I'm servicing really pops with the splash of colour in the hands...

This could be a borderline perfect watch for me they got rid of the overhanging sub second and home time indicator. And add a date. How can a world timer not have a date function?

I used to have a Tangente and Metro. They were nice. Metro was REALLY nice. Size was excellent. I would go for that personally... or wait for the Rolex!

Some other nice ones don’t either.
(only one is mine sadly)

I think it's because they figure that now that you no longer have to do the arithmetic in your head to know what time it is somewhere else, it frees up much needed brain cells for you to remember what date it is yourself 😉

I have always been a fan of the blue Nomos world timer myself.

I had a Nomos Weltzeit Nachtblau (blue dial) and loved it. Good look with the overlapping dials and subdials and colour. The world time and home time mechanisms are intuitive and easy to understand and the action is crisp. We'll designed and executed.

That's my vote.

I would try to find a place that carries Nomos before buying one. They looked nice online but ended being way too big/thick in person for me. Also, those watches aren't Dressy at all. More casual than anything.

Go for the Omegas. Nomos, relatively speaking, is a niche brand.

Why do you not have it anymore?
