No wonder credit card fraud is rampant.

Why a surface of all things.

He has no interest in the Surface...its whatever he can sell for $200 cash.
My wife just went thru the similar scenario, except they stole her wallet from a grocery cart, and within 20 minutes made 6 transaction at 4 different stores before Amex shut them down. (they had the physical card)
In the end the stores all took the hit, not Amex or us as the clerks in all 6 transactions never asked for ID. Police actually responded were able to get surveillance photos of the thief...but beyond that the officer said its highly unlikely they will find them. He also said generally they sell all the items for pennies on the dollar within hours of the purchase.

Do you want to see me get the taser?

I have video of it around here somewhere...I was tasered during training when I was with the Cincinnati Police.
YES, Yes we do. Post this now in a new thread please 😁
The way I heard it, you were tasered by a certain
MacGyverette at the Cincinnati Omega Boutique .😲

For some reason I have this image of him pedalling along on a Schwinn and getting tasered while still riding the bike in lycra, it just makes it more hilarious

Yeah, maybe he was on his way to the boutique, I got the story story second hand from a used watch dealer in Covington KY, this past April.

OK...I'm unable to locate the video at this time...not sure where it is. I'll contact my former partner (we were hired together in 2004 and she's still with the Cincinnati Police at the rank of Lieutenant)...she may have a copy of the video. There were about 30 of us rookies (including my former partner) that were tasered during a training evolution...the department gave us a TASER tie-tac. 👍

EDIT UPDATE: @dsio...OK...I contacted my former Cincinnati Police partner and she doesn't have a copy of the video. She believes the video is archived at the Cincinnati Police library. 🙁

NFW!

That was the most painful 5 seconds I've ever experienced...I would prefer to NOT 'ride the lightning' again.

Most departments won't spend manpower to pursue non violent crimes. Typically if it is a by product of an arrest or apprehension do they tack things on. Monetary loss unfortunately is not a real concern....look at all the people that got away in banking

It also depends on the bank. I have an account with Navy Federal Credit Union, and when I travel I can almost always guarantee my card won't work. They lock the fraud down. So I just know I need to call ahead when I have travel plans.

Earlier this year went on a trip up the coast. Stopped in a knife shop to buy a knife. Card declined. Realized the problem as it was declined, and as I was getting ready to call in, the bank was calling me. Just the way it goes these days. PIA.

Getting to the point where I just carry cash when I travel.

A few years ago a scammer in Mississippi ordered a bunch of stuff from Walmart with my friends credit card. Walmart contacted him AFTER they shipped the order out. Walmart gave my friend the name and address where they shipped it to. He called the police in Mississippi and they told him they couldn't do anything because the name could be a fake. My friend found the guy on facebook and called the police again. They now said they couldn't do anything because they couldn't prove he was the person who placed the order. A few days later my friend found Craigslist listings for some of the same items that were ordered. The listings had the same first name as the scammer and listed the location as the same town. He called the police again and they told him to stop looking into thing or he was going to get charged with cyber stalking. 🤦

I really believed I had a copy somewhere...I checked my computer as well as my stored LEO equipment/books/paraphernalia. I don't believe the Cincinnati Police would allow me to access the archives...but I could always give it the old college try and ask.

Enough to piss a person off, ain't it? As my B-I-L (a detective) says, the laws were written to protect the criminal.

EDIT: stealing a credit card and using it at Walmart? The their couldn't think of a better place to go? 🙄

In this case, the police are right. The friend has no proof of identity, as the other person may have had their ID stolen too.

Not sure what President Trump can do about it other than suggest we legalize vigilanteism.

It's frustrating and upsetting when it happens to you but the cost is built in to every transaction you make.

Time to think like that little girl in "Frozen"

You will be a lot less stressed.

😵‍💫 The police couldn't be sure the person was the thief because he might have had his ID stolen as well so the "right" thing was for them to ignore a crime and another potential crime?!? The least they could have done was go knock on the guys door and talk to him. If he was the thief at a minimum it might scare him away from doing it again. If he was a victim also at least he would be informed.

The crazy thing is Walmart saves money by under staffing and constantly calling the police to deal with shoplifters and such. Basically making us all pay for their loss prevention. They are putting resources to stopping people from taking $10 of stuff off the shelf but none into someone taking $1000 of stuff behind a computer.

Perhaps you only think you were tasered and actually received Electro Shock Therapy? That would explain the memory loss regarding the, never happened, tasering.
