Hi everyone, need a second opinion please on a possible non-Omega watch. Please read and don't swear at me 馃榾)

I own three Omegas, a Speedmaster (3590.50), a Seamaster 120 (166.027) and a more modern Seamaster 1957 re-edition. It's the later Seamaster which I somehow never fall in love with (is it the faux?) and I am considering of trading it in for a JLC master calendar calendar I already have another JLC (reverso - absolutely beautiful piece) and I do like their offerings (not prices) and brand. As much as the Seamaster 1957 is a beautiful thing I miss the functionality of having a date display. The JLC master control calendar has is same dimensions as the Seamaster (39mm), has date (pointer), day and month, and moonphase (not bothered on the latter). White, formal dial in the JLC as oppose to black, diver, sporty looks of the Seamaster. The JLC I like but haven't exactly fallen in love with.

What would you choose??!!

Thanks for the advice!

Thanks. What is it that works for you with the JLC?

JLC hands down. Beautiful watch and the moonphase is such a great complication. The fake lume patina on the Omega 300 ruins it for me and I think in the years ahead we'll look back at these and wonder what we were thinking - like shag rugs in the 70s

This JLC versus an original vintage SM300 would be an altogether different choice and discussion.

Thanks too. I have owned the Seamaster for the past 5 years, first owner, and have to say the fake lume is not something I got used to. Depending on light conditions sometimes it doesn't look bad, a bright sunlit day will make it look fine, but indoors it never looks right. Shame because the Seamaster is beautifully built with an excellent movement, co-axial 8806.

I don't mind the fake lume, only downside I have is the glare of the sapphire when I try to take a wristshot.

As I own a RG Master Calendar and have considered and passed on the SM 300, its JLC all the way. Of course they are very different watches. It鈥檚 really no contest.

I'm never one to get hung up on lume which I think too many people overly obsess over. The JLC triple date moonphase has always been a classic, the winner going away.

Thanks you all. Does anyone have experience with JLC service and prices? I am getting quotes for around 拢1000 for a full service of a JLC master control calendar (by JLC). Any experience from anyone?

Thats about right. It鈥檚 a modern complicated watch. Best to let factory service handle it.

Lume is a big part of this watch, it covers a a quarter of the dial. I prefer dress watches with no lume, but for a dive watch it's a key part of the dial.

Love the look of that JLC. And most of their offerings and the heritage. They are pricey, though, including the service.

I'd ditch the JLC without a second thought.

I had a JLC Master Hometime and had it serviced by JLC. It was $850. The watch then had a 2 year warranty from JLC.

The two watches couldn't be more different. The SM300 is very similar looking to the 166.027 that you already have an enjoy. Maybe too duplicative and the JLC would sit better, and more unique, among your collection? You also have a lot of black dial watches, having white is a nice change.

Countdown bezels confuse me. Not sure why they exist at all LOL

I'm a huge fan of Omega and I have at least a dozen of them. That being said, a JLC is the best watch that I own. There are very few companies that can combine art and engineering into spectacular watches. JLC is one of them.

Since it's almost unanimous, I'll go against the stream. The MC Calendar has a boring dial. Plain silver that feels almost featureless. I've held that watch in hand and it only reinforced my opinion.

The limited edition Calendar is much more appealing, as are the Chrono Calendar or the Memovox. They add more detail to an otherwise plain dial. Maybe I like busier dials...

I imagine you're asking for validation to get the JLC. If that's the case, go for it and don't look back, as it's a great watch. My, or any other's opinion, doesn't mean anything if you like it.
