I saw this on Instagram today, and couldn't find a thread about it on here. It looks like Nivada Grenchen is relaunching this year? I don't know a ton about this brand, but a Chronomaster Aviator Sea Diver is on my long term wish list.

Here is the website: https://nivadagrenchenofficial.com/

What do people know or think about this?

They posted a couple 3D designs on their Instagram stories:

They also said they will bring back the Antarctic, which I think I'd be more excited about since I've owned and sold more than my fair share of them.

They want to use an automatic movement in the Chronomaster which adds some thickness and kind of steps away from a good heritage piece.

And I asked them about putting the "T" on the dial when they obviously won't be using Tritium, and they said it's not an issue... Does anyone know if that's true? Isn't there something stopping you from claiming it has a certain lume when it doesn't?

Overall, It'll be interesting to see what they bring, hopefully it's not too far out of line with the originals. I hope they aren't all 42mm monsters like Certina did with their diver re-issues.

Those first renders looks cheap to be honest 🙁 They look like chunky watches now, which they never have been.

The chronomaster will be 39.5mm and will be powered by a Sellita SW510 BH.

Looks a bit of and cheap on the rendered models tbh. Hopefully it will look better in the flesh.

In recent times the Nivada brand has been in Spanish ownership and is now headquartered in Mexico - see Facebook presence.

I am very keen on Nivadas from the 60s/70s and I don't think recent/contemporary products are at all comparable.

Plenty of examples of the 'real thing' on my blog.

Meanwhile:

Your blog looks like it has a lot of great information at a quick glance. I'm going to have to spend some time there learning more about the brand's history.

The website the Spanish / Mexican Nivada Facebook page links to has some pretty horrific designs. Reminds me of a budget version of TAG's F1 line mixed with Tissot's NBA watches...

Does anyone know if the Nivada launching and releasing the CASD / Antarctic has any ties to the heritage of the brand?

Please leave it vintage!
They are great just the way they were.

What a great double you have there, and I agree that the new ones never will meet the quality of the vintage ones. Especially if they are trying to fight in the relatively cheap market, the prices I have read is something like 7-800$ for the Antarctic and 1600-1800$ for the Chronomaster.

Thank you! Yes it has a blued second hand.
(It is an Aquamatic, but it has the same dial as some Antarctics.

Indeed it doesn’t have any of the apealing features the original has. Hopefully it looks better in real but that dial and particular the indexes doesn’t come close to the 3D effect of the original on your dial.

Agreed. Nothing will ever beat vintage when it comes to Nivada Grenchen!

Ouch, that is rough. It's closer to the Nivada only (not Croton) designs with the more simple dials and misses the mark on what makes the "classsic" Croton Antarctics so pleasing.

How about a relaunch of the Landeron 4750 Electric?

I wonder what the „t“ on the dial of the discussed new release refers to. May be it is „t“ for „trash“. 😁
I am a big fan of the vintage Chronomasters, here is a pre Chronomaster with „double Swiss“ dial.
Best

None of the side-shots/full dimensions have been posted yet, so I figured I'd add them here for posterity.
Hopefully, as these are first-version 3D models, the production versions don't end up being nearly as thick as these initial designs seem.

Chronomaster:

Antarctic:

Curiously, they don't seem to be keen on reproducing the case shape of the Chronomaster or the Antarctic. The Chronomaster's lugs are missing their bevels and lug holes. Meanwhile, the side profile of the Antarctic case makes it looks like a fat 2914 Railmaster, and it retains none of the charm that the faceted lugs of the original do.
