The dial has lost a lot of the minute track between the 4 and 5. Look at the numbers and hashmarks in the seconds subdial—I'm not sure that they'll look any better on the wrist.

Does the "military" descriptor come from the seller? I don't see what's military about it. Except for the Marathon/Adanac quartz and some mechanical models made during the Gulf War, there's no evidence that any Gallet wristwatch was ever issued by any military.

It's not military. What is the size of the watch? That's a huge factor in valuation.

It's absolutely fine if you prefer a 31mm watch. In fact, it's great, since you can probably get some amazing deals. But it greatly affects value, since almost nobody wants a watch that size these days unless there is something extremely collectible about it, e.g. a military issued watch or a prestigious brand. Given the condition of the dial and the size, it's quite hard to put a value on the watch since there's very little market for it. If you were to try to sell it, I think you might struggle to get $100. Also, the movement looks quite dirty, so you should assume that it will need a service.

I think most people will probably say that you can get more desirable watches for ~$400, but if you really love it, you may have to pay what the seller wants. And if you keep it long-term and wear it often, it's not a lot of money in absolute terms.

I meant that the small subdial that counts the seconds has numbers and hash marks that look to have been crudely repainted, which will be hard to unsee if you end up buying the watch. Dan is right—you can have your pick if you like smaller watches, because the current market preference is for larger ones.

Ads like this with poorly-lit photos intended to obscure dial defects/ deterioration send me scrambling to the sidelines.

31mm, dirty movement ( so $200 service), looks like the dial has been washed. Drive that price down hard. It’s also not military issued.

I agree with @Dan S, it is worth less than $100. You could get a real military watch for $380. It was less than 2 years ago I picked up this WWII Waltham A-11 for under $300 (about $260 if memory serves) on an open eBay auction.

thanks for the help guys will continue to look around. i have had my eye on this for a while though, but the price did put me off for what it was at first. just not really sure about how to go about getting the right price for it…seller seems to believe that it’s worth much more than 100

Sometimes you have to walk away from a deal. However, it is your money and if for some reason the watch just speaks to you. If you don't plan on ever selling it, maybe overpaying by a significant margin doesn't matter. I think you could do much better for less. This thread might give you ideas:

If you like that style and size I’d recommend getting one of the hundreds of Amag Tissots that are out there. Fantastic watches that can be bought well and should hold their price.
