New member; long time lurker. I never expected to fulfill this particular desire so quickly. Perhaps I could have walked into the nearest AD or OB to pick up a brand spanking new 3861 in about the same time. However, for me being a part of and interactive with a community is a large part of my enjoyment of any particular niche hobby. And because of that, having the opportunity to meet up with Dave in person and chat over lunch makes this particular watch so much more special to me. At this time (I am realistic about my ability to change my decisions in the future) I don't expect that I will ever let this one go. It is and will always be my very first Speedmaster. I do expect to acquire some more, vintage, specimens in the future as I continue further down this rabbit hole.

A special thanks to @JwRosenthal for **cough**enabling**cough** this particular connection and of course @140dave for being open to a meet and transaction with a relatively new member.

Looks great! Nothing like the combination of Omega Forums helping you acquire your first Speedmaster. I've been down that road myself - @Kringkily

Agreed. I joined this party 7 years ago. 56 watches later I'm pretty sure I was "enabled" by many members. 😎

Awesome- totally awesome! Now what about that other one I posted ::stirthepot::

haha, you really are an enabler 😀

I did reach out about the gorgeous vintage Seamaster but I ultimately decided to back out at this time so that I can narrow my own focus and target something a bit more specifically. Basically, recognizing that I should be buying things that I am passionate about rather than as an emotional reaction 😀

What, only one watch!?! No vintage Seamaster? No pie pan Constellation? No Ranchero? No Planet Ocean?

I do have a backlog of other vintage watches that I want to focus on eventually, but for now I'm trying to dig into all of the details that I need to understand wrt speedies that would have been offered during my birth year. I think these aren't particularly desirable by flippers yet, at least. According to the Maddox's case reference files there would have have been a couple of Gold variants introduced in '81 with an 861 calibre movement with a DL/DD 145.0022 reference. I have also come across mentions that the 145.0022 reference was introduced around that time and could also apply to the traditional stainless steel speedy pro. The confusion to nailing things down a little further appears to be that one may find watches from this time marked as 145.022 and/or a 3590.50 as well?

If you want to focus on a 1981 birthyear, you can have some fun- Submariner, Datejust, Hamilton GG-W113, Zenith El Primero, Seiko Turtle….Porsche 911 Targa, BMW 633csi, Datsun 280zx (with t-tops of course), Jaguar XJS, Ferrari 308GTS….sorry, I got distracted.

Congratulations on the Speedy purchase -- wear it in good health! I enjoyed reading your intro thread and it sounds like you have a very good attitude and approach to all of this. Why not enjoy a modern Speedy right now while you hunt for that perfect vintage specimen! Just be ready because the next watch may come up sooner than you think (again), or you can continue to fall in love and agonize over other lovely examples that come and go in the meantime gaining a bit of an education -- it's all part of the fun!

Also approve very much of your strap choice (and if you don't mind, another reason to post a Speedy pic) 😉
