I wonder why the title says Meister, looks like a cut-and-paste from a different listing.

I wondered about that- I couldn’t see Meister signed anywhere. Normally that would be on the dial, right?

Yes, it's the name of a retailer, and some watches are double-signed. So you'd really want to double-check that the listing is accurate.

I was trying to avoid buying from outside the US, as I know the import fees can add quite a bit to the price- but I am looking at this option. Any thoughts? https://www.chrono24.com/omega/cons...an-meister-oversized-vws-2903--id39499857.htm

I'm including some screenshots because I couldn't figure out a way to download their pics

It's good that you are considering different case styles, like this 168.004.
However, the case has been polished and it is a bit rounded and if you look closely at the dial, it has a lot of patination (damage) that wouldn't be very attractive in the flesh.
Plus once again, for a watch in that condition, it is probably double the price it should be.

I know the redialing a watch is no good, but what is the problem with polishing the case? Is that something that should be avoided always? And, by rounded, are you referring to the raised area that might have had sharper edges if it weren't polished? Thank you!

Parts of the case that originally had sharp corners were "softened" by aggressive polishing on a buffing wheel. Particularly noticeable on the edges of the lugs (chamfers). Read the "Learn how to fish" thread for a primer.

Great read- thanks for that! I'm bookmarking it.

Whilst collectors prize originality, the beauty of vintage watches lies in their original dials and the lines and facets of their cases.

It is also where their value lies and a watch with a patinated dial or soft case should be priced accordingly.

Vintage watches with polished cases can still be nice to wear but once you’ve seen what they should look like they can leave you feeling somewhat underwhelmed.

'jumbo' is the designation for certain constellations - produced for the Far Eastern market - and they are slightly larger than regular Constellations at around 37mm against the regular 34.5mm
(this term is sometimes used by unscrupulous dealers to describe the round-cased constellations, like the one you showed previously, as they are a tiny bit [0.5mm] large than a regular constellation)

the jumbo you show above has a very spotty dial, the case is not too bad but it is soft and the stars on the medallion almost worn away.
also it is not a pie-pan if you are set on one of those - it is a dome dial with a different coloured outer ring (to sort of resemble a pie pan)

Understood. I do want to stick with the pie pan but I hadn't seen the Jumbo situation before, so I was curious about it. The dome is ok, but the pie pan is what I'm aiming for. Thank you!
