As a fellow vintage collector who appreciates your taste in watches, I would like to take a contrarian stance here. 馃榿

The 50th moonwatch anniversary is almost over. Sell or trade a Speedmaster and acquire a nice tritium 14060 before prices get totally out of hand. Have it serviced and pressure tested and wear the hell out of it.

Don't buy a homage.

I think you鈥檙e right, with a big life change it鈥檚 worth selling a vintage Speedmaster to buy a really nice modern watch- but if so the ones I would pick are either a Rolex Milgauss or a Rolex Explorer.

Why does it have to be new? I'd rather get a used Tudor than some of the options listed here that are new.

Congratulations and wish you the best with the coming period because of the absence of sleep. They say it's the best time of your life. But it is'nt. Dont believe them. You get tired and they cry and yell. When they stop doing this, the best time in your life will start. But this will take at least 5 years. So believe me when I say this, treat yourself every damn year with the most expensive and beautiful watch you can buy. You will need this. Good luck from @Shabbaz (father of two of the best kids in the world).

How about a 50th anniversary Speedie re-issue? Probably sits well with the rest of your collection.

From reading your post it does seem you're keen on a Rolex. A nice vintage Date-Just won't break the bank and never seems to go out of fashion.

I recently purchased a mid-1990s Rolex 14060 with a beautiful patina for about 7500 USD. This watch bridges the gap between vintage and modern in my view and has become one of my favorite watches. I have a toddler and understand the need for something durable.

As much as I don't like to admit it, I think I'm dancing around the fact I want some kind of oyster case, probably an Oyster Perpetual or a Submariner. I've been trying to convince myself that I like the Seamaster master coaxial or the Planet Ocean but the SM seems like too much of an homage and the PO is just too bloody thick.

Everything else, the Tudors, Longines, Rado etc. They're nice watches and I'd happily have them as part of my collection but the point I need to keep focusing on is that this needs to be my daily wearer. If it's just something I think is quite nice, I'll keep bypassing it and picking up a Speedmaster. Ive also considered a WatchCo type Seamaster 300 but I really do want this to be a new watch.

The problem now is that none are really available! I called at the AD again today assuming the Oyster Perpetual would be and even those have a wait of at least 3 months!

What does that mean exactly? To me, a daily wearer is one that is versatile enough to go with a number of different straps, and waterproof if it's wet out. Sounds like you're looking for a dress watch, though?

No not at all. I don't really go for dressy watches on a daily basis and I have dressy vintage watches for when I need that kind of watch. I'm looking for either a diver or field type watch.

When I say it needs to be my daily wearer, I mean I need to open my watch box and be happy choosing it most days. Being honest if I get a Rado or similar, I'll happily wear it some days, but too often I'll bypass it for some vintage Omega.

I've probably answered my own question really and @Dan S hit the nail on the head. I know I want either a Sub, E1 or Oyster Perpetual. I was just trying to convince myself there was another, cheaper option.

Breitling's Superocean Heritage line is a bit above your price cap, but the non-Heritage Superocean checks a lot of your boxes:

But I'm getting the feeling that you wouldn't be happy with it.

On the other hand, the Aviator 8 line isn't a diver but I think it's got a great vintage field-watch look, especially in green:

Dunno about you, but I want one.

You will enjoy having a Sub as a change of pace from your Speedmasters. And it will be super easy to flip if you ever tire of it, which you probably won鈥檛.

Pretty sure there is a post where a child hid someone鈥檚 10k watch and some other valuable items in the hole in a bass speakers that took a while to find 馃榿

This is where you will be buying watches now my friend

https://shop.swatch.com/en_au/watches/flik-flak/power-time-c84.html
With your budget you could have every watch currently in production (4 whole pages at roughly $65 each).

I鈥檝e been looking for at early 90s Rolex subs and gmts for a while now. I do wonder if the dream will be better than the reality. It sounds like you鈥檝e made up your mind - I鈥檇 just wait the three months 馃憤

I 100% share your thought. I would buy the 14060 too. But don't kid yourself...prices for the 14060 are already out of hand!
