Yes.

When did OMEGA ask you for a picture?

I mean, I have ordered an extract for my potential Ultraman about 4 weeks ago and nobody asked for anything till now.

It is a reasonable fine engraving, something a watchmaker would do free hand. Don't think I could achieve it. @Oblivious What was the occupation of the owner if you don't mind telling?
He didn't really have an occupation. It's a long story, but he got by nicely (and legally) anyway. I'd like to leave it at that.

:-D Understood! Was just wondering if he had the skills to do this himself or if a watchmaker of some sort did it.

You are aware that this engraving might increase the value of the watch, if there is some historical context?

If so, I cannot understand you just don't seem to be interested in this?

2017-10-10, in an email:
"
Thank you for your request for an extract from the archives.

In order to help me in my research, could I ask you to send me some pictures of your watch, specifically of the front of your watch (dial side).

Thank you in advance for your help."

Why is this so strange?

Why? Because I have ordered maybe 30 extracts over the years and never ever received a mail like that.

Well, as my username suggests, I was until recently clueless about expensive watches. In the last year or so I have learnt a lot about speedmasters, but I know next to nothing about what makes one watch more valuable than the other.

Well, as my username suggests, let me post a 'thoughtcrime': something is weird here...

There is some discussion at present over the integrity or otherwise of the extract process, which is supposed to in theory offer a verified record of what Omega hold in their archives, without reference to the current state of the piece. It has been suggested that records for the Ultraman were in fact not as complete as they are assumed to be. The fact you were asked for a picture does nothing to calm my worries over this. It is not usual at all and rather plays into the hands of those that say that influence can be brought to bear on what is printed on extracts. I do accept your point that you sent it with a different hand but you have to ask why Omega would need to see the watch if they already know all they need.

Aaaah right 😀 So, for posterity, a picture of the white hand mounted was sent, and an extract stating 'orange hand' was returned (a crucial point for this whole thread).

As clear as mud!

I think it is established that Omega have no hand information in the Archives.

The 'Ultraman' requires a photo to establish it has the correct Orange hand/Gloss Dial so the Museam can judge it to be correct.

Wrong number is sent, wrong hand in the picture, and yet both serial numbers are given an extract.

Someone is being economical with the truth or the Museam is chucking out 'Ultraman' extracts willy nilly

I personally don't think so. I know something about the responsible people there and they tend to be conservative.

There were 2 options available. I also favour the former.

So what do you think we have here?

When I put 1 and 1 together, some things don't seem very plausible.

Yes. But for me, your statements were mainly 50/50.

What do you believe? Story true or not?

This story has become something like a novel by Arthur Conan Doyle, we just need Sherlock now.

I wonder who has the watch with the SN that was in the original extract, do they know that they are holding and Ultraman ???

but I know next to nothing about what makes one watch more valuable than the other.

You are stating this, while giving this watch to a reknowned auctioneer?

Yes. Of course because you don't know?

Yup. Googled Omega Speedmaster orange hand, raised my eye rows, talked to a watch wiz, went to Bukowskis.
